I must confess never having benifitted from it or experienced it so maybe it is not for me to comment on it with any authority..... But never when it is discussed is there a proviso by its supporters that it is a poor fix...

I find it odd that I think of three friends of mine who grew up in Jamaica in the deepest rural (lack of electricity, five mile walk daily each way to a 45 minute bus ride to school), setting was two of whom adjudged to have been in the to be wothty of a scholarships to a US based on a SAT score thirty years ago.. yet those from an inner citty yanki cant compete in 2012.. To me the idea that it is poverty....rascism lack of understanding of yanki dominat culture makes no sense.... but then all three was equally succesful at English Exam Boards (Example A 13 O'levels, 3 A'levels, Example B 11 Olevels, 3 A levels, Example C 12 O'levels, 3 A'levels) all three at the same high school from the same rural setting... And were not particularly brilliant by my accounts.. So eitjer Jamaicans are superior....

So the cultural chasm is not an adequate explantion...

But Wahalla to be fair similar anecdotes can be found across the US(and Canada) too. take a look at CXC passes from inner city schools in Jamaica today hardly anything to write home about.

good question...
obviously based on the original article of the thread, some already think that term is over...the concept is a noble one; to attempt to atone for past injustices--- it's just going to be a powder-keg issue as long as it is officially practiced...never mind is it already practiced unofficially as businesses & schools already hire & admit whoever the hell they want at the exclusion of others...
i can't pretend i know the solution for this issue, but i would like to see the so-called blacks change the nature of the debate...
from begging to get in to a guy's job or school or arguing that they deserve a place, to exploring self-improvement and going about creating what others have created also...
