Street sweepers - that was a legit job, if I recall. I remember that it was very low on the totem pole of menial labour though... we were always told that if we didn't do well in school, we didda go en up sweep street...

Crash Program! Anybady remember de term???? Laas week, when wi whenna talk bout dis, mi knoa 'street sweepers' wasn't the term, but I couldn memba wha dem use to call it...

Yes, most definitely.
My eldest sister was big in the political party youth program. When crash program came about, one evening she came home and asked us to help her write the words for the theme song. &quot;the government start a programme to keep the city clean...so let us do our duty and clean it street by street...&quot; I was a child but can never forget. Our parents used to blaze red about her involvement in politics at such a young age. She has lots of memories and stories but don't really speak much of it.

Emperor Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia (1930 – 1974), arrived in Jamaica on a state visit on April 21, 1966. His visit stirred great excitement among the people of Jamaica, especially the Rastafarians.
