Witchy it happened just a little over a year ago...

Yes, I was home in bed...in a dead to the world sleep which is rare because i'm an insomniac. I woke up to a man hovering over my prone body. I screamed. Cops came and it took a while for us to realise things were missing, including all my jewelry. They got away...

Witchy, I'm so glad you got your things back. But I know the real hurt is that your friendship is over.

I once had a good friend steal quite a bit of money from me (approx. $600). The money was not the issue, if he came to me and told me he needed money for food, rent etc.... .I would have given him more than $600 but it is the betrayal of trust that hurts. The friendship ended and I have never seen him again. This all happened about 15 years ago. He was the best man at my wedding for God's sake. Sometimes I wish I would have called him to make amends but the years passed and we just never talked. Trust is huge with me. I would do anything for a good friend. But steal from me and you may as well be dead as far as I'm concerned. Maybe not a healthy attitude but that is just the way I am.

Sorry this had to happen to you.

In the grand scheme of things however it is so not worth doing anything drastic as you posted earlier. As long as people walk this earth they will disappoint. It's just a fact of life and it happens every day.

Sorry to hear. I am sure you are devastated over the loss of trust of your friend but consider how lucky you are that you found your jewelry &amp; found the truth about your former friend.

I once lost 1/4 Million Dollars worth of gold ...and that was just one incident.
There were others prior to and after that......and they are still trying, even when I have nothing left.

I can't, don't dare, let her in my house again!
I can't seem to just walk away from the friendship whistling Dixie.

I don't even want the damn jewelry anymore. Do you know that it's still buried in the dirty sand in the old soup can in my kitchen?! I won't even touch it!! She ruined the joy of my jewelry for me. I hate it now. I won't ever wear it again.

I called Mr Witchy's daughter (the jeweler who made it for me) to come and pick it up, and melt the gold down, and sell the diamonds in other pieces she can make for sale. I won't wear it and don't want to own it. The big engagement diamond is up for sale; it's worth approx. $7,500 on it's own.

All I want, now, is my own amethyst back. (the one I owned for 34 or 35 years before I sold it) I can have that plus about $5,500 cash in my pocket if I sell my engagement diamond. It's gorgeous. And it's untainted. It's from my youth. Pure. Nothing ugly about it.

Witchy, seriously, I do not understand your bawling and histrionics given the fact that you found the jewelry and your friend did NOT steal from you.

What do you expect? You accused your friend. She is very hurt. When someone is accused of theft, especially when the accusation is coming from another friend, the hurt goes to the core of that person's heart. She vehemently denied the accusation and that is her way of handling something like that. Please go and apologize to her and stop acting as if the woman did <span style="font-weight: bold">you</span> something wrong.

What you are to do? <span style="font-weight: bold">Apologize to your friend and MEAN it and SHOW that you mean it.</span>

In any event. Maybe the friend is going through some issues in their life that are causing them to act in such a way. Still no excuse for what they tried to do but never the less, there must be something going on in their life.

When a good friend pulls something like this it can leave very real and lasting scars. You begin to have a hard time trusting anyone.

Witchy, I don't say this to be mean but I really think you need to talk to a therapist and tell them just what you told us.

I don't understand why she wouldn't give a friend of 20 years the benefit of the doubt. Why's she so quick to cast off a friend? Isn't a person's true riches the friends they're able to accumulate over the years rather than rings and diamonds and such?

The friend said she didn't do it. Witchy can't prove that the friend did or intend to do it. So take the friend's word and move on. You've got your jewelry back and you have the possibility of getting your friend back. That's a good ending in my book...

Same here. I was under the impression the friend moved it from the bathroom upstairs where Witchy had it and wrapped it in the toilet paper from upstairs and placed it in the soup can

If the friend did not do it, then who, and why?

i'm not understanding the two-stage robbery. it actually seems a bit riskier than just tiefing the stuff one time, as they were put in something that mr. witchy has a habit of using.

although i may have missed part of the story.

the biggest mystery to me though is why the idea of the theft was enough to make witchy feel suicidal, and why the discovery that they were not stolen has not fixed things.

but witchy, u know u were always a mystery to me. hope you find resolution in all this.

I'm wondering if the friend was planning to steal it and changed her mind and stuck it in the soup can. But in such a case you would have to be 100% sure about the facts before anyone is accused of anything. The friend must be going through something for them to take such desperate measures (if in fact it was them that did this).Perhaps more than ever this friend needs your help Witchy.

The whole suicidal feelings thing is a worry. Again, if this is the way you truly feel I urge you to seek professional help. As someone posted just ahead of me. You have your hubby, you have your jewelry and maybe even your friendship perhaps. Count your blessings, there are a whole heap of people far worse off than that. Some people have absolutely nothing and no one.

This is correct.

I promise you all... actually I'll swear it... that I did not put my own jewelry in dirty sand in an old soup can. (For what possible reason? I've lost everything that meant the most to me!)
And I am quite willing to guarantee that it didn't wrap itself up and walk itself into that can either.

No one was in my house except for me, Mr Witchy, and my friend.

She was wearing leggings. No pockets. I picked her up and drove her home - she hasn't got a car; she had no pocketbook with her. Other than perhaps her bra, she really had no place to put anything. And my big diamond (you see it) would <span style="font-style: italic">CLEARLY</span> stick out pretty noticeably if stuck into a bra under a t-shirt! Maybe she planned on wearing jeans with pockets on Friday when she came back to finish up the job in my kitchen??

I seriously doubt she came to my house planning to steal from me: She wasn't dressed for that. I think (hope??) that it was an act born of desperation and one moment of weakness, unplanned, driven by Satan - because this woman is a very Christian woman, normally! I'm telling you, she was raised Christian!! She is a cousin of a very famous celebrity from East Orange &amp; Newark who's known for her Christianity - the entire family is so known! She IS NOT a thief, normally... I don't get this AT ALL!! (Some of her cousins are wealthy, but she is not, nor are some of her other cousins - I know a lot of them. They have had their troubles dealing with celebrity status and drugs and such... She only had to come ask me for some financial help, and I would gladly have helped her. ditto her wealthier family members. But she's too proud... pride gets in her way.)

I, too, wondered if she took my jewelry downstairs to steal it, then changed her mind but couldn't go back upstairs - so she stuck it in the soup can and figured to put it back later... but didn't get the chance. After we worked in the kitchen together, I was in a hurry - late to an appointment, and rather hastily told her that she could wait the five minutes to pee at her apartment and we could leave right away, and I rushed us out of my house in a big hurry. I'm sorry for that now. Maybe she wanted to replace my jewelry in it's rightful place... But she still wouldn't have been able to do it because I was in my kitchen, so she couldn't have taken it out of the can to take it back upstairs, anyhow. sigh
