Anyway for those who like their justice at the street level here is a nice tidbit.
the happenings took place on the day Portia organized a black-protest against rape and violent crime.

A motorist who reportedly mowed down several persons who were assisting a pedestrian hit by another motor vehicle was set up on and mobbed to death in Old Harbour, St Catherine yesterday.

He has been identified as 41-year-old Michael Melbourne.

The Constabulary Communications Network (CCN) says the pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, also succumbed to his injuries.

The Old Harbour Police reports that shortly after 7 p.m. the pedestrian was walking along the Old Harbour Road when he was hit by a vehicle that did not stop.

It is reported that residents came to his assistance and a number of them were allegedly mowed down by the driver of a Toyota Hiace motor vehicle being driven by Melbourne.

CCN says Melbourne was then attacked by angry residents who mobbed him and stabbed him several times

There is plenty of blame to go around but there is a general trend of an increase in lawlessness under the PNP. The feeling of the man in the street was the JLP was all about big business and was fighting down the likkle man and the PNP would free them up. This was the primary reason for the JLP's defeat - Mannat/Dudus was secondary. The night noise abatement act which was being increasingly enforced across Jamaica was all of a sudden relaxed when PNP took back power. The likkle man also never forgot that the JLP froze the scrap metal trade because of the rampant theft taking place across the island. Chris Tufton lost his seat in part because of steps he took to deal with poaching under the fisheries act. Generally there was an effort made by the JLP to enforce law and order across the island - save for certain untouchable communities. The failure of the JLP was a failure to go all the way in the enforcement of law to include all communities including the Republic of Tivoli and if you are going to strip away a man's ability to make a money from keeping dance all night you better be thinking of alternative ways to keep your constituents employed and happy.

Him a try save face...his BIG headline before the rapes was dat di scamming was going to cost Mobay jobs..u know di usual...is tru it a ketch him dat wile him a worry bout scammers, wile him a seh crime down, di court dockets were showing the glaring increase in crimes against children n women...the week or so before the court said dat someting like 75% of its dockets were sex crimes against children....so wile dem did arrest a supposed kingfish in di scamming n said supposed bigwig supposed faded away because of supposed big contributor status in di governing party, wellllllllllllllll.....but I is not one to pass on what report if u read alll di news regardless of source, so u never hear dis opinion from me..... ....Jamaica, the Land of Reactionary Governance....

Vigilante Justice - The Supreme Oxymoron

Every mob killing or the extrajudicial killing of someone at the hands of an accuser always brings back vivid memories of a night when an irate cabbie and his entire 'load' of passengers wrongfully accused me of hitting his recently repaired taxi and trying to escape into the night.

The furious driver made two serious attempts to chop me to death. In the end, both the cops on the scene and those at the Half-Way Tree Police Station proved to the fellow that it was impossible for my car to have done any damage, let alone so much damage to his car and still remain totally free of any scratches or dents.

I could have been history simply because an irate driver and his car full of passengers made a terrible mistake and felt justified in killing me for something that they thought that I did.

'Vigilante justice' is the ultimate oxymoron. No vigilante (punisher of a perceived lawbreaker) can carry out justice (the act of applying or upholding the law). Vigilantism occurs whenever persons either have no respect for the law, no access to the law, very limited access to the law, or where no law exists.

ACTING ON EMOTION

Certainly, the law exists and is easily accessible in Zion, near Falmouth, yet a group of people there took it upon themselves to accuse a young homosexual man, living in a nearby community, of abducting two boys, aged seven and 10 years old, buggering, then murdering them and dumping their bodies in the Martha Brae River.

When the vigilantes decided to act, the only thing that they knew for certain was that the boys were missing for days and were eventually found naked, having drowned and floating in the river with their abandoned clothes nearby. At that time, there was speculation that there MAY have been some trauma to their bodies, but after six days, post-mortem and floating in water, one wonders. Perhaps the little boys decided to doff their garments and go for a swim and accidentally drowned.

Not only did the group accuse the young homosexual man of the heinous crime, they tried him in absentia and sought to exact 'justice' (in this case, the death penalty) on him. They were so enraged that they went to the home of his family members living within their community, firebombed it, and ended up killing his totally innocent stepfather and injuring his stepsister. They would have killed the entire household, but the others escaped.

Extremely inhumane

Every time that I think I've seen and heard the worst barbarism imaginable, people do something to prove me wrong. Humanity can be extremely inhumane. People are capable of just about anything, and we should therefore expect just about anything at any time from anyone.

Domestic disputes/disagreements rank pretty high among the causes for violence and murder. I have always thought that we should officially create an appointed or elected post occupied by a trusted member and permanent resident of each community with whom people could, and should, seek to settle serious interpersonal problems before things get out of hand.

It should also be legislated that if the people involved in the dispute/ disagreement ignore the community member in that post and commit any crime arising out of said dispute/disagreement, there should be an additional charge (with serious consequences) for not seeking the intervention of the appointed or elected community member mentioned above.

Of course, if the disagreement is with the resident so appointed or elected, the person occupying that post from the nearest neighbouring community should be sought out.

We cannot foresee every possible spurious criminal activity, but we must think outside the box in an attempt to reduce them.

VIGILANTISM as it is being exhibited currently in Jamaica, is due to a sense of impotence on the part of the people...n please, mi no need nobody point out the irony of the word wen it is sexual crimes dat spurring the issue at times...people have no control , seemingly, in any area of their lives....if dem working, di employer disrespect dem wid di likkle wage and did di treatment on the job...dem get disrespected wen dem a spend di likkle money...if is not the bank teller, the store clerk, the post office clerk, the police man, the nurse, di doctor, every turn is smaddy like dem wid problems n attitude..if dem a live awf a remittance, well dat is anodda area of impotence too...people who feel dem have no control over THEIR lives HIT OUT at anything n anyone as long as dem hitting out ...n wid sooo many being on edge for soooo many reasons it don't tek much fi di lynch mob fi form etc etc etc...come on people, dem cowboy movie we wean pon back in the day a yaad, come from reality...mob rule acts on emotion, not reason...Jamaica's problems continue to generate from the top down..n dat mean di government minister, di church minister n whole lot of others who claim to minister to the citizenry...dem p iss on dem daily n tell dem is rain
