Yes and also renting apartments. This used to be a HUGE problem in Canada until they brought in Human Rights legislation. I remember friends of mine who were light skinned Jamaicans going to look for apartments and having a really hard time.

Light skinned blacks who appear Black face just as much discrimination as dark skinned Black in employment housing and how they are treated w.r.t. public services. The only areas where they may have a bit of a difference is that, in North America, people of other races are more likely to date a light skinned Black person than a dark skinned Black. I don't notice people in the UK, Europe, Asia or the Middle East making these distinctions and I regularly see very dark Caribbean and African women with White or Asian husbands.

It is very irresponsible to race a child with the notion that they are mixed and they will get a break. I have seen many light skinned Jamaicans who have had a RUDE awakening. As a result, I have known some to become very militant.

Actually it was the white people who made the distinction. Garvey was a little off course regarding this mulatto business as his opinions were based on his experience in Jamaica where the light skinned offspring of the slavemaster and their descendants were given a privileged position. In America...one drop rule applied..Black is Black.

I go by one drop rule and don't understand why people are trying to get away from their Blackness. I reject Jamaican notions that Black is something to get away from as soon as possible and the closer to White the better. You seem to be defending that...which is surprising.

A high percentage of people in Jamaica have some White blood in them even though it is not visible (e.g. some of the every dark people with Irish names...not even one Irish family owned slaves in Jamaica). Are you going to tell me they are not Black? </div></div>
