JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The attorney of a man accused of killing a 17-year-old at a Baymeadows gas station Friday night said he saw a gun.
Dunn's attorney Robin Lemonidis said Tuesday night that Michael Dunn acted in self defense when he shot and killed Jordan Davis. Dunn, 45, is now behind bars in Duval County.
"He didn't think he had harmed anybody and he just thought he had scared them off and he wanted to report it, but he didn't want to go in a sense, throw himself to the wolves in a strange city without representation," Lemonidis said.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has said Davis was unarmed.
Dunn told authorities that he had asked the teens to turn down the blaring music from their vehicle adjacent to his, as he waited for his girlfriend to return to the car.
A verbal altercation ensued between the teens and Dunn. Schoonover said Dunn told police he felt threatened so he shot into the car, firing 8-9 times. Davis was struck twice and died.
Dunn and his girlfriend then left the gas station. The two drove back to Brevard County. Dunn had been visiting Jacksonville to attend his son's wedding Friday night.
Police arrested Dunn at his Satellite Beach home Saturday.
