I not telling my husband to take up cooking my house as he is not a very good cook yes I put it out there and really I enjoy my kitchen "it's my domain" in our house. He has no problem taking us out to dinner on the other hand so he makes up for his lack of cooking skills. I know enough Jamaican men who do the right thing to say your statement is flawed and if you say many or some then I can surely agree with you but that is a wrong generalization and it is offensive to those who know it's a lie.

There are exceptions. I have even seen West Indian women go to the buffet table and get the food for their husbands and bring it to them. Sorry I can't relate to that.

I am not just referring to families from counselling. I am merely pointing out that my sample size is larger than most. I once worked somewhere with a LOT of West Indian men. They were very nice to me and we had lots of great discussions and I was surprised to see some of the archaic thinking that was still around. I had a lot of great discussions and debates about these issues and I might add, a lot of fun.
The wives would cook and send them to work with hot food every day. No sandwiches for them. I was quite surprised.

I said most and it is a fact and I stand by it. If you don't like it tough luck. Even YOU admit that your husband doesn't cook so what is your flippin' problem? I rest my case. Did he change diapers, feed the baby, bathe the baby, do the dishes?
What percentage of Jamaican men do you think change baby nappy or feed and bathe babies? What percentage of them cook dinner when they come home? Very few. The women works and is expected to come home and work out her soul case while dem cock up dem foot. There are exceptions. Go ahead and pretend that this is not an issue in our community if it gives you comfort.

If there is one family out there that does it right there are more ...give Jamaican men some credit.Change the ppl you hanging out with. If it was a little cooking or domestic thing is the prob .. solution neither had to do it pay somebody to do it.
I am going to say one more thing and then leave it at that. I remember in Toronto there was a Jamaican social worker who was appalled by what she saw happening in families because of these issues and the negative impact on the children. She worked hard and helped MANY families. Gave up a ton of her own time without pay to speak out about it at many conferences in the Jamaican community right here in Toronto because she was so concerned.
She was attacked and mostly by women who criticized her for airing dirty laundry and saying that she was lying and nutten noh go soh. They accused her of trying to push a feminist agenda and impose WHITE values on Black families.
The hatred against this woman was so strong that she was blackballed and had difficulty finding employment for over 10 years. WHY? She had the guts to speak the truth. Her own Jamaican sisters did this to her. It's disappointing to see that nothing has changed.
Fast forward many years...some of those same women who accused her of lying and swore up an down everything in the garden was fine saw dem marriages fall apart and MANY of them TUN LESBIAN!! You hear whe mi a tell you. Every last one of de ringleaders in this campaign against her saw their own marriages fall apart because of t hese same issues and dem tun lesbian.I could call names but I won't as they will be recognizable to anyone in the Jamaican community in Toronto.
The social worker is dead and gone. What was done to her was a travesty and an grave injustice. Fortunately, she was happily married for over 30 years. She passed away 2 1/2 years ago and these women who attacked her are STILL miserable and LESBIAN!!

Focus on the positives that exist in our culture so the young and upcoming can have a point of reference or if we keep showing all the wrongs as the norm then our people will forever be living the negative stereotype. I know good and bad Jamaican men but I will always highlight the positives... in my own little practical world that's how I do it... Give it a try.

We must focus on strengths and positives but we must also address and resolve some of the very serious issues our community faces honestly, directly and frankly we will always be behind the 8th ball.
