I don't even know what to say. I heard the news this morning and saw Trayvon's parents faces in the courtroom when the decision was read on the morning news and I cried. I have shed many tears over this. I cannot comprehend. No other white person that I personally know feels that this was "justified", or any such thing. I just wanted to chime in and say that and I am so very sorry for everyone affected. I am just plain dumbfounded. In my world the cold blooded killing of a teenager murdered by a neighborhood vigilante such as what happened to Trayvon and his family wouldn't happen at all and since it did, the gunman would never again see the light of day. I also have to admit that unlike some of you here who are faced with this reality that I do not daily encounter, I was surprised over the verdict. I had faith. The world is a much sadder place today for all of us, even those that do not realize it now, may our Creator help them see the light of this injustice.Originally posted by mountaingal View Post

When I was in Florida last year I did not meet even ONE White person who didn't support Zimmerman and vilify Trayvon. Maybe thee is a slim ray of hope but I am really having trouble seeing it.Comment

Nunya, lang time since I have seen you. I understand about the commentary. We are in a fight to save a tribal land from becoming decimated by blowing up a mountaintop upstream from a local reservation to remove iron ore with a sulfuric acid byproduct. If it happens it will turn the tribal lands into a toxic wasteland, such as what is already happening elsewhere in the US & Canada (and world wide), and I occasionally read the comments and I have had to stop for the most part. I do not believe the comments represent a majority of the population even though there are plenty of them to indicate they do. It is just that the ones who feel so are the ones who seem the most vocal. To tell you the truth, the "blinders" I spoke of just a few minutes above, have become slowly removed by reading the comments on those news pieces over the last 2 years we have been in the fight. Trayvon's parents were not in court when the verdict was read, perhaps they had a camera on then at another location where they were, I'm not sure. I missed that perhaps.

I think a lot of white folks don't really consider Zimmerman as "white". As Blu would say "mixed race man". To them it was a hispanic on black crime.Comment

Tropi, it might also be area of country. I don't know... I do see a lot of racism here but since this is a majority white area, Native Americans are more often the target and yes, black Americans as well. The mayor of Duluth last year started a "start seeing racism" campaign and it went quite awry. The white supremacists even showed up to town for a rally on more than one occasion. I had meant to come here a year ago and share what was going on but didn't get the chance. I don't want to derail this thread but if anyone would like I will retrieve the links, post them here or start a new thread. I must say, I am proud that most of my friends 'get it", and were glad to see the campaign. Those are the kind of people I have in my life. I think Zimmerman was setting up a legal case for murder when he called 911, even the dispatcher appeared unable to sway him from his intended path, to pursue and eliminate his quarry, Trayvon Martin. 'Stand your ground' was probably meant for a static situation, but Zimmerman seemed to have redefined it to apply to a more dynamic situation.

Sorry if I got that wrong. I was away until late last night, and hadn't heard the news until this morning when I opened FB while having coffee, turned on the news and pretty much the first thing I saw today was news of the verdict and Travon's parent's faces. Since I was reading FB and watching the news at the same time that is what it looked like what I was seeing. It was an image I will not soon forget and I so wish it wasn't so. Nothing will bring Travon back, but maybe he is better off in the streets. I wouldn't want to be him. Then again Casey Anthony is still alive.Originally posted by My Looh View Post

Yes please do start a discussion about that as ever since I have been on this board and raised concerns about racial issues, I have been attacked. I have a comment about the jurors....what a set a cowards...mek dem come out and show dem face. I hope their identities are exposed and soon. They need to be held accountable for their decision and explain why they made it.
George Zimmerman Anonymous Jurors Remaining SecretIn the aftermath of the George Zimmerman verdict everyone was heard from either by news conference, television interview or by tweet -- except the jurors.The identities of the six women who decided that Zimmerman was innocent of murder and manslaughter in the death of Trayvon Martin were sealed at the start of the racially charged trial and the court and the sheriff reminded the media after the trial that the court order is still in effect.
The roll call of the jurors sounds like a moment from a Bingo game -- B76, B37, E6, B29, E40 and B51. And during the trial the camera in the courtroom was careful to never show their faces.
There is no indication that the women will explain their verdict in public any time soon.
"Jurors were given packets of letters from the media containing interview requests. They expressed no interest at this time," the court spokeswoman tweeted out today.
The court also tweeted a warning shortly after the verdict was announced, saying, "Any attempt to identify jurors is a violation of the current order."
The warning was bolstered by a release from the Seminole County Sheriff's office reminding the media that the identities of the jurors "remain protected by order of the court."
"The media should not, at any time, attempt to video and/or broadcast the jurors, the transport or personal vehicles used, or any locations/venues where the jurors may be staying or visiting," the sheriff's office stated. "Any media currently at locations where they believe jurors could be located should depart the area immediately."
The women who sat through the nearly month-long trial ranged in age from women in their early 30s to women in their 60s. Four of the women either have experience with guns or relatives who are gun owners. Two of them share a passion for rescuing animals.
