A: Well, t'ing about him now is that Delroy was a person who... he always... you always find him down the gully. Where these gullies are, where the waste-water runs. And that's where you'd find Delroy running these board-horses. You ever heard of board-horses?
Q: No, don't think so.
A: You make these lickle t'ings, shaped out of wood - like a diamond. And smooth with a razor at the back of it. Like a rudder. And we'd put it in the running water and whoever had the lightest and most sturdy board, that we call a horse, and if you end up at the winning post, you'd get the money.
Yes. So it was like each person put a pound to put in them horses, when to race. And then now off they go at an equal start an' then some horses would get double oval, others would go ahead and whoever win, wins. Delroy loved that. He loved race horses, board-horse we called them.
Down to gully every day, and he had the money because he would get a few shillings from Mr Dodd at the time. Not what he expected or what he were earned, but just something that, for a boy at his age, he was more than wealthy than what a lot of other mature males got for amount... that they could spend for a week, y'know? So, he had that. And he was like that, he was one a dem fun people.
But then again I think that drinking... money is a dangerous commodity. Because Delroy started drinking at an early age an' you know...

Oh okay...I would never have figured it out. As fe Penny Reel, I thik I will pass on that. The lyrics are disgusting and I would not be interested in knowing more about them.
I still can't wrap my head around how a man like Delroy Wilson with such a gift could have just let it all go down the drain for booze. For some reason guys in the music business always seem to have some character issues. If it's not drugs, it's booze, if it's not booze or drugs, it's game playing and rooksin around wid nuff women. It's almost as if so much of their psyche is directed and concentrated into their talent that it leaves little on reserve for coping with life and normal relationships.
Very sad we lost Delroy Wilson and in fact so many talented artists at such an early age when they had so much more of their gift to offer the world....but I digress.

A Board Horse looks like a solid canoe with not cut outs and as described a razor blade for a rudder. More like a minature one-man whitewater raft.
They would wait till the flood water ran off the race the Board Horses in the low water trench of the gully.
The guy who lived next door to me had a Red Horse called Red Ash (he got his name from that) and another painted Silver (his girl, who was a Browning was called Silver Top), named Silver Top. They horses though simple to look at were very carefully made and decorated.
