I never said anybody made anything up...not even once.

Clearly this behaviour and style of dress happens (the videos and photos prove it) but to pretend say this is normal and standard operating procedure a yawd is what I am taking exception to.

FYI, all other comments I have seen about this video from Jamaicans, they have responded with:

Times change...I wonder if my mom had died I this time, how would the literal thousands who spilled out over the roads would behave...then they were respectful as their presence showed their love for her..but with all the new incomes I the community I wonder if they wouldn't there for "crowd" factor n gwanie gwanie...I would think the old schoolers would check them...

Perhaps this is normal in some sectors as one of my relatives put it....there are many levels in Jamaican society just like any society but to imply that this is across the board consider to be normal is simply not true.

For the most part, people who are poor carry themselves with dignity. I can think of only one young cousin who needs checking and I will attend to that personally next time mi go dung deh and even he doesn't gawn soh.

To chastise me for calling out this behaviour as inappropriate is once again showing that there are some interested in provoking arguments with me to build a case to drive me off the board. I assure you, had anyone else commented that the behaviour was disgusting, the reaction would not have been the same.

just because one does not agree with something does not entitled that person to condemn... I think these funerals are a waste of money but the is a development of community cohesion associated with it and the spend is an econimic driver. internal investment.... To me

times as Vannie elegantly put evolve.. one of the aspects of Jamaican society is the way things change and evolve.. And funerals have evolved in that manner.... Some of the dancing wey pudung is impressive,the drumming , the MC, the crowd singing the half remembered Sankey dem, in its rhythm more basic simpler more ethereal, and yes the fashion show.... When people dance to get into the hypnotic state called spirit when their brain overloads.. people call for celebration of life at funerals.. And if the deceased was into the dance hall theme with its dress codes and mores fine. and if the deceased familiy thinks its appropriate to make the spend hire the entertainment..y not ? with gun salutes and weed a bun and dance hall themes is that not a celebration.. denial of this aspect of our culture is impossible....

i THINK IT IS INNOVATIVE, and extremely creative.. artisitic, spontaneous poetry.. art.. and exciting.....and each time one of these events happens it reinforces a connection to a past... and one of the few times the echo of Africaness comes out in Jamaica...


I have seen equivalent in Ghana nigeria Liberia the same chaos and loud music over the top celebration. The coffins shaped like a car or a lion... Jamaicans do it better though.. to me it is a connection ot the african past of which I am not connected...

Me I chose not to condemn... but when a yanki traditional song puts it ...

Your relatives are to the prescribers of good taste nor are they the deciders of culture. Neither am I. I dont like the huge mauselumes that are grave stones.... I think like muslims the body should be buried within 24 hours... I saw islamic funerals in the stans where the road gets blocked and the family invited a goup of us to break bread.. they asked us to carry the coffin...wel the coffin went crowd surfing like bolt in a night club...


I recognise a unique cultural event... that actually marries african ness with West Isles of scotland.. where do u think the term Sankey comes from ?. those people who want that kind of celebration good for them... for the participants they think it is in good taste....as long as it does not disturb the neighbors I have no issues...
But then I dont subscribe to a Quaker approach to a funeral where we sit around in silence.. or the Erstaz long boring story what a good person the deceased was... how they loved god and was in the bossom of jesus...

I know there are those who think the nine night radtions are bhuttu and low class. AND BAD TASTE...... but then so much that is considered Jamaican is bhutto and low class at one point saltfish, Bob Marley, bammy, crocus bag, mento reggaee, all things that distilled down to gie the most dynamic culture on the planet. We are one of the few cultures that pushes back against western culture....and the Kanadaisation of the world.. lets face it.. Jamaica is not a black version of Kanada...

No one is objecting to the music, singing, dancing, etc. Creativity is a wonderful thing. What is being discussed here is the....the as you put it bhutto behaviour (glad you said it and not me) and whorish dressing.


If I had said bhutto...I would have been ripped to shreds. Now that you have used that word and no one has objected, I guess I am now free to use it too.

So it is okay for Wahalla to speak about Bhutto behaviour but it is not okay for me to call people out on their Bhutto behaviour. Why? We both live outside Jamaica...or am I singled out because I have the guts to say that I don't approve of trashy behaviour or attire and I have inadvertently offended some boardites who dress like the women in the video. That is not my problem.

When a video or photo is posted, I comment just like everyone else.

Here is a hint: I can't see through the computer screen. I have no idea how the women on here dress so the comments are not directed at anyone personally...just the people who are in the photos or videos.
