Good morning MGee! (and everyone) the menagerie is my entertainment and wonderful company here in the middle of nowhere. They do keep me busy especially as I have a slew of old-timers again. Thankfully, Helga is doing great around the wobbly and rickety 16 1/2 year old Ziggy and she pretty much leaves him alone, except for when Ziggy stole Helga's bully stick yesterday afternoon and she wanted it back but i wouldn't let her take it.

I no longer have any horses here though, and for once I am thankful. The mare Sadie, as wonderful as she is, was a lot of work in Winter and with her owner 90 miles away it was just time for Britt to move her closer. It was easy to see Sadie leave, and I am finally ready to go through life with no horse on my place. The problem with Sadie was watching her stand out in the pasture for months on end with nobody riding her or doing anything with her as her owner was so far away. She had to leave.

Paris has decided she LOVES having a little sister to boss around. Yay! I was so worried and it is always a concern that a new addition to a dog family could possibly not work out.

Yesterday we went to get the mail...

Helga worked hard to keep up with Paris. Notice she only has one foot touching the ground!

She went from Princess Paris to Queen Paris this week...



It was heartbreaking to watch Paris truly mourn the loss of Rose. It is so fun to watch her obvious happiness now.. (and mine)







The adventures continue. Helga is in her crate at this moment, so she can learn about being confined for when I can't take her with me. She is doing well in crate training, and has stopped the crying and whining for the most part. She will learn that she is to sit in there and not make a peep until I come and let her out. Crate training is probably the hardest on both of us, as I would rather have Helga laying near my feet, but this is a necessary thing..

Helga has noticeably grown in the last week! I can barely fit her in my lap anymore and she is getting too big to carry. She came here just in time to catch the end of the 'baby" stage, and now I can see her already moving into the more alert inquisitive always ready puppy stage. She needs watching every minute.

o goodness, their joy is so wonderful to see. lucky helga to have paris to bond with. seeing the two of them i could also picture sadie standing in the field by herself and thinking how lonely she must have been, cause horses like packs too, don't?

I have been so busy with my personal life that I missed this post until yesterday. So nice to see your lovely dogs and very sorry to hear about Rose. I know you really care for them when you talk about the training and what you go through with them. Keep up the good work Nooks.

Yes MGee, horses are herd animals and it is sad to see one alone but there are circumstances where it is fine. Sadie had been picked on by other horses in the past, so she actually loved being by herself. However, when my 3 times a day visits for food and water stopped with Spring & Summer and no need to feed, Sadie wasn't getting any human interaction at all. Her owner works full time and has a 6 year old, and a new fiance. All of this left her no time to come here to see her horse and it was breaking my heart and I am so busy these days I didn't spend time with Sadie either.. Now that Sadie is close to her owner at an actual boarding facility, she is so much better off. I was but a port in a storm.

When Bucko left, I was not ready to be horseless. For 2 years I hardly spent any time in the yard, I missed him so much. Sadie got me back out in the yard again so I am grateful she was here. I am ready to finally move on without my boy, though I miss him still. His grave is covered with a huge semi truck tarp since May, so by next May all the weeds/roots should be killed off and I'll get a truckload of soil to dump on top of him and plant a nice little Bucko garden.

The garden center focus will be the weeping birch tree. I once planted a weeping birch in the front yard and during one of Bucko's Houdini escapades, he walked up to my new tree and ate it in half. The tree turned out to be a graft on some kind of Birch tree other than what we usually have here, and the focus of my yearly Rosebud photo sessions!



I doubt there will ever be another horse here, but I will never say never. I have a shelter and if I hear of a horse in need, I would likely take it in and care for it but I won't go looking.

There will never be another Rosebud either, she will always have a place in my heart, but the hole she left is filling in at a rapid pace with fun puppy antics!

Jamaica Miss! Hey lady, I have been wondering how you are doing, I miss seeing you bout the place! I hope all is well, and thank you! I didn't know if I was up to the task of rearing a puppy and all the training but it is going swimmingly. I will likely take Helga to formal obedience training and show her in AKC Obedience Trials and Rally, she is so smart I almost have to or she will likely become bored.

Helga is napping on the couch with 16 year old Tango &amp; a platypus toy. Tango will be giving her the &quot;cat rubdown&quot; any time I say!

I thought it was my imagination, but it does appear Helga has grown since the first pics. How much did her parents weigh?

Good morning everyone! Tulip it is like if I turn around and count to three she is bigger! She is growing fast, so I will probably start feeding her Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul large breed puppy so she can keep up to her growth spurts. The grain free food might not have enough stuff in it to keep up.

Thanks Ceabee and FT. It is truly happy in my house again after so much loss. Funny what good a new fur baby can do.

Helga is learning crate training again this morning. I am up to 2-3 hour sessions in the afternoon and will probably increase by a half hour a day for a couple of days until I know she is comfortable in there.

Last night we only had one outside middle of the night potty, at 3am. It won't be long and we will last all night without having to go out.

Helga will out grow Paris by a lot as far as structure, and also in height. Paris weighs about 44 lbs. Rose weighed around 85-90 lbs. Helga will likely be 80-90 lbs of love and protection! . Her grandmother was 100 lbs but Helga was built a tad more slight than the rest of the littler. You had to really look hard to see it or they all looked the same across the board. It is a beautiful litter when that happens!

Helga will grow for approximately 2 years. She will gain height rapidly, and then pretty much just fill out. By 9 months to a year old she will be as tall as she will get. I guess we will know how tall she will get around April! I am guessing around 27 to 28 inches at the shoulder.
