thanks to everybody for your kind suggestions and comments. shoes have been bought, and couple more rounds of drama wid di frock have ensued since i last posted. but we're just in from the hairdresser, and all is well so to speak.

oonu wi never guess di type a shoe we ended up with...

sorry folks, weeks of anxiety on the home front with the fershlugginer prom dress and on the work front caught up with me and i crashed.

daughter send me text lass night near midnight dat she won best dressed

but i only saw the message this morning.

first the shoes. both dawta and i tried, we really tried, to get the shoes fitting the description we discussed in this thread. no luck. colour, minimal bling, height, couldn't find the right combination.

dawta got discouraged.

then, the frock. alterations. my fault, found wan eediat so-called seamstress , go har yaad, say we want the straps for the dress tightened and the waist taken in. ooman eyeball the frock, &quot;o yes, i do it, half inch here, i do it&quot;. we ask her if she naw go pin it. no.

ooman sew di strap too tite. sew the side wrong. when she go fi pull it out, start use har teet fi get out di thread.

long story short, after couple more efforts to &quot;fix&quot; the ting, we told her is okay, we'll take it from here.

dawta had meltdown when she reach home, all a gasp fi air she a bawl so much. older sister diddeh a pat pat har.

it was decided that i would do the alteration. mi start sweat and fret, cause a years mi no sew.

mi cya di frock go work next day, spend lunch hour a look fi fabric store fi buy the right colour thread. no luck.

so mi seh - maybe i can at least find shoes. dawta's despair at her vision of herself and her dress being knockout at prom was getting to me. dress frigged up, no shoes. i wanted her to feel better.

so mi look and look, and finally saw this pair. are they youthful and comfortable enough?

Anne Kleins, big money, mi buy dem if she no like dem, mi wi carry dem back.

so three nights before prom mi diddeh a sew.

it took me about three hours to first practice on a piece a material mi buy that was similar to her dress, then pin and baste the two straps, then to sew them.

i didn't even bother to take in the sides.

the results weren't perfect, but dawta was okay. mi carry go dry cleaner, when mi pick it up the night before prom, im tell me there were extra charges cause the dress did longer (it have train). mi not even did care again.

hair - she have natural hair as everybody know. mi tek day off fi carry her go hair dresser. we both nervously watch the sky, caw it suppose to rain.

lucky it wasn't busy at hairdresser, and it was a youngish woman who did her hair. we discussed the matter of rain/moisture in the air, and what it would do to the big curl hairdo mi dawta wanted. hairdresser advised that she wi mek di curls dem as tite as possible, so if they start to fall dung because of rain or humidity, dem wi still keep some shape. and she only charged $35!

Fun thread. Lots of drama, congrats to lil MGee for the college acceptance!

Sarry to hear bout the riding thing though, I so enjoyed those threads and was wondering if she was still riding.

So when is the prom?
