Indian media have been publishing exposés documenting the foul behavior of Gulf Arabs in the southern Indian town of Hyderabad. "Fly-by-night bridegrooms" by R Akhileshwari in the Deccan Herald and "One minor girl, many Arabs" by Mohammed Wajihuddin in the Times of India are two important examples. Wajihuddin sets the stage:
They are old predators with new vigour. Often bearded, invariably in flowing robes and expensive turbans. The rich, middle-aged Arabs increasingly stalk the deprived streets of Hyderabad like medieval monarchs would stalk their harems in days that we wrongly think are history. These Viagra-enabled Arabs are perpetrating a blatant crime under the veneer of nikaah, the Islamic rules of marriage.

Misusing the sanctioned provision which allows a Muslim man to have four wives at a time, many old Arabs are not just marrying minors in Hyderabad, but marrying more than one minor in a single sitting. "The Arabs prefer teenage, virgin brides," says Jameela Nishat, who counsels and sensitises young women against the malaise.
The Arabs usually "marry" the girls for short periods, sometimes just a single night. In fact, Wajihuddin reports, marriage and divorce formalities are often prepared at the same time, thereby expediting the process for all involved. Akhileshwari notes that "their girl children are available for as little as 5,000 rupees to satisfy the lust of doddering old Arab men." Five thousand rupees, by the way, equals just a bit over US$100.

For centuries tourism abroad has been presented as a path to cultural enrichment or self-development. What has largely been unacknowledged is that a major, underlying motive for the British to cross the Channel has been the pursuit of sex.

Well before Shirley Valentine rediscovered her libido on a Greek island, the Brits saw the Continent as a place for unbridled pleasure. Female sex tourism differs from male sex tourism in that women do not use bars, sex shows and formal tours to meet foreign men. There are "de facto" tours, however, such as airplanes bound to the Gambia in West Africa full of British and Scandinavian women seeking affairs with beach boys.

Often such trips are referred to by women as "romance tourism."
Women usually give clothes, meals, cash and gifts to their male prostitutes. In some destinations, there are "going rates" for male companionship, ranging from $50 to $200. In few destinations, especially in Southern Europe, Turkey, Bali and the French Caribbean, men do not expect to be compensated.

Destinations
While men tend to go to Asia for sex tourism, women tend to head to the Caribbean, Southern Europe, and Africa. The patterns have been explored by Michel Houellebecq in Platform and in the non-fiction work Romance on the Road, and are important in that they support the idea that sex tourism by both men and women reflects serious problems in the tourists' home countries, including a dating war, or profound conflict between the sexes.
Thailand, the Dominican Republic and Cuba are exceptional in that both male and female sex tourists find these places all-purpose sexual emporia.

History
Barring some isolated cases of women traveling for sex among North American Indian tribes and within Turkey, female travel sex (involving American and English women) began in Rome in the late 1840s, at the same time as feminism's first wave, which encouraged independence and travel.

Affairs and intrigues, particularly between American heiresses and down-on their luck European aristocrats, continued steadily until World War I and inspired Henry James's Daisy Miller, Joaquin Miller's The One Fair Woman, and much of the early output of E.M. Forster.

Female sex travel declined from the time of the Depression until the 1960s, with the exception of India, Nepal and Thailand, where intrepid women from England, France, Czechoslovakia, the United States and elsewhere continued to attract the attention of maharajas and other Asian royals, despite the uproar of World War

Coincident with the explosion of leisure travel in the 1960s and feminism's second wave, sex tourism by women re-ignited, first via French Canadian women traveling to Barbados and Swedish and Northern European women to Spain, Greece, Yugoslavia and the Gambia. Female sex travel became ubiquitous throughout the Caribbean, from the tiniest islands through the big destinations of Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Barbados.
In the 1990s, women from Japan and Taiwan began to appear on the beaches of Bali and Phuket in Thailand.

Today, many other destinations are popular, including Morocco, Nepal, Thailand, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico -- everywhere with beaches (or in Nepal's case, mountains) and a surplus of underemployed men.

In Jamaica I thought that the "model searches" were really exploitive of young teens. There were no whites involved in these "productions."

And I also thought that for every one male searching the prostitutes and skatel gals, that there were five or six women seeking men. And I don't think I ever met a guy over 15 who wasn't hitting on every tourist woman (white or black, married or unmarried) that he got a chance to speak to. And a high percentage of these women seeking men were black women.

One funny thing I ran across was that some women when they travel for sex they change their names, and act out much more sexually than they would back home. I met a couple once in that had fallen in love in Jamaica, but when she met him she was using a name that wasn't really hers.

Yes I would agree with that and that is the reason taht this has been primarily a "white" pursuit. As you pointed out, we now have the junkets from rich Arab countries and apparently the tour bus circuit in Thailand for well heeled Japanese business men.

How do you know if a man on a business trip is likely to visit a sex venue with his Thai colleagues? Yet while the government, and the tourist and aviation industries, resist attempts to measure the significance of the sex trade, there is one way to gauge the extent of sex tourism, even if in fairly crude terms. A look at the Thai immigration department's statistics, culled from the cards foreigners must fill in on entry, reveals an interesting discrepancy: 60 per cent of visitors are male and only 40 per cent female. The gap grows when you look at arrivals from the rich countries who come to Thailand on holiday in large numbers—the US, Japan, Britain, France. For these places, nearly two males arrived for every female in 2003.



How much sex tourism is there in Thailand?
More British citizens visit Thailand than those of any other non-Asian country. In 2003 (the last year for which full figures are available) some 545,000 British residents arrived on visits. If you remove the children, and the British citizens visiting for business or reasons other than a holiday, you arrive at about 489,000—314,000 men and 175,000 women. That is 139,000 more British men than women coming to Thailand for a holiday—a gap of 28 per cent. The French gender disparity—60,500 more men than women—is 32 per cent, about the same as that of visitors from the US. The Japanese, at 35 per cent, is the highest—over 300,000 more men. If you take Europe as a whole (though there are some countries, like Finland and Sweden, with virtually no disparity) the gap is 25 per cent—494,000 more men than women.

A look at the major rich-nation visitors—those from the US, Australia, Europe and Japan [TC: hey, try the Saudis, predicted ratio infinite]—shows that 952,000 more men than women visited Thailand on holiday in 2003, a disparity of 28 per cent...This pattern is unique among major tourist destinations. Take, for example, the Caribbean, another popular tropical destination for economy tourism. Here, the disparity runs at 2 or 3 per cent—the only country with a significant gap in favour of men, nearly 11 per cent, is Cuba, the Caribbean country most notorious for sex tourism.

Seventy-five per cent of prostitutes, according to one study, entered the trade after the failure of a relationship—"damaged goods" in a society that still puts a high premium on female virginity. Another common reason given for entering prostitution is the pressure of family debts.</div></div>

"It fits the demands of an ideological morality that says that in essence all sex issues should be dealt with by abstinence. And it's about defenceless kids and teenagers," said one former Unicef worker. Another who was involved in the agency's anti-trafficking programmes in east Asia told me that within Unicef they are seen as "a great collecting bucket," a reliable method of raising funds that can then be spent on less donor-thrilling projects, like education or immunisation. </div></div>

Pulse's Caribbean Model Search is now on. The competition, which receives a steady flow of entrants all year long, is now in full swing, the agency is reporting.

Contestants have already done their photo shoots and have started bi-weekly grooming classes with runway coach Donavan Marshall. "Here, we mould stars," says Marshall, as he pauses from his session, on walking and presentation, with the girls.

Simply stated, your question is why are most sex tourists white? I think you could just as easily wonder why are most international tourists white?

Let me bring up groupies. Young women who are willing to have sex with music Artistes, ie traveling minstrels. Do white rock stars have or want more groupies, than Black stars? Will there be observable racial differences amongst the groupies. Yes, depending on where the group is playing.

There are many places in the world where there is are huge sex markets. People who can afford it, and know the runnings, and who are comfortable in the local community, go there. Many of these countries are poor, but not all of them... Like Amsterdam, for instance.

Are there rich Jamaican born Englishmen who go to Amsterdam for sex? You betcha! Will they be looking for blondes?

Not really sex tourism per se but gives some insight into how relationships develop. The charachter Braddie plays in No Place Like Home is definitely a hustler. Does he really care and feel for her? Is he just using her? How does she really feel about him?

I haven't seen the second movie. It's 2 Black people who fall in love. Are they both really in love? Is one using the other?

The lines are often blurred. Sometimes the woman may think the relationship is bonafide but the man is just using her. It's confusing.

Whether they are being paid or not, the charm is on. Jamaican men shine when it comes to making a woman feel like a woman because it’s in them naturally to do so. As a foreign woman, it’s more evident to me than it might be to a Yardie woman. Perhaps because of being used to their degree of attention, growing up with it makes its normal or expected. In that case, she would look for more in a man, which is understandable. Whereas it is new to most of us (foreign women). I live in a country where most of the men I meet and know are spoiled and selfish. Think that pleasing a woman or learning how to is work so they would rather find a woman who would put up with their “take me as I am” attitude instead of becoming a better mate.

So yes, “some” Jamaican men may seize the opportunity to capitalize on this characteristic…because they know whether short term or long term, both are benefiting from it.
