Re: Thread Deleted? (Mzungu Sex Tourism Patterns)
the discussion is interesting... warranted.... and to bring as many people into the foray is good.. to get the different perspectives...
has it ever occured to you tropi.. that some of us mzungus like me ... are as offended by sexual tourism as well.. whether in jamaica or the back roads of thailand?
exploitation is exploitation.... one sells their body for commodities or money.. because they feel they dont have any other way out... and this seems to be an easy answer... not because they want to sleep with some older man that they would normally have nothing to do with if they were in a position of empowerment.....
i cant stand the notion of men with money.. coming and sexing women they otherwise could not get... and i dont really love the idea of women either doing the same.......
but i think the line is hazy... when it comes to sex.... and who gets to say who can do what with their bodies..... people go on vacation... not me.. but many.. and sex or romance is a part of what they are looking for.. short term.. or long term...
isnt it the right of the two parties.. to decide if they want to "play" but more importantly. can we always judge what the sexual /relationship is based on.... esp when it comes to jamaica...
there are many people. men and women with real relationships... with heart.. with respect.. and yes with love..... and sure many of them. the ones from farrin have the money.. or more of it.... but who is to say the one in jamaica.. doesnt give something else.. that balances that out.. that is more valuable to the other than money?? and they both are in a win win situation....
i dont think you can judge globally.. just on individuals.....
i think there is a stereotype.. that most are there for that.... i have never in all my time in jamaica.. gone to look for a man.. or even considered that scenario...... in fact im followed whenever i go down the beach in negril.. one of the reasons i dont go too often.. i cant stand being bothered.. and i have often been come up to even in kingston where someone mentions my P- - - y... and has even asked to see it.... so.. there is as much exploitation the other way in a different way... seeing the farrin person as a person with commodities. or thinking they have money... and trying to embrace them for all the wrong reasons and a way that is equally offensive.... i feel when its done to me.. get the heck out of my face...
again.. i find sexual exploitation.. offensive.. period... when one has no choices.. and its clearly a barter scenario... esp in countries of acute poverty and lack of education....
prostitution is as old as it comes... there are some that want the fast buck in other countries and maybe they choose this and are ok with that.. to me thats different.... but in soceities where options are completely limited... no....
very tricky..
but yes very interesting tropi.. comparing.. countries.. and practices....
