NYer, thank you for your response to accepted. I was about to have a little panic attack until I read your very reasonable (and equally caring) response.

Accepted, it's possible that from your position, it looks like the bridge is out. But, being closer to it, perhaps I have a different perspective and can see that I'm not about to fall. Thanks for looking out for me, but you really can't unless you're in my shoes and see with my eyes.

Accepted, I'd like to add that I think there is a difference between hiding what you believe, denying your beliefs, and hitting everyone you come across oiver the head with them.

Of course if I am asked about my beliefs I will share them. I would expect any good Christian to do the same.

But there's a difference between doing that and setting out to convert, and belittling those who don't.

I beg to differ. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid, and if we as Christians are unwilling to let others know about Jesus if we in silence deny him before men then he will likewise deny us before the father.

If it's a real city, I will seek it, if I want to go there. At which point I will ask whom I choose for the best directions. Or perhaps buy myself a map. but in this case the city is invisible, and I prefer to deal with that I can see. You have every right to talk about the city but you have no right to try and drag everyone up the hill.

Now some say do it in love, but is it love to see a person heading towards a broken bridge and not shout a warning because it's none of my business.

again it is all your perspective. For someone like me that does not believe in the bible your shouting anything at me about it is not welcomed even if you do it in love. If I adopt the same stance and also shout my beliefs in "Love" then what we have is a shouting match and no one gets heard.

Its up to each individual to keep there eyes pealed for the broken bridges, and if they choose to jump off the edge, then who are you to say they can't, besides again there is no proof there even is a bridge, not to mention a broken one. If I see a bridge I'll cross on my own. If I fall then I knew the risks so it was my choice to do so.

Not all Christians in here may agree, cause not all who profess Christianity are willing to stand up for truth, biblical truth, cause it hurts to say some things found in the Bible, you wish there was another way to say "sinner", "hell", Judgment, fornication, adultery, murderers, homosexuality.

Again truth? Your truth not mine.

It is you opinion, your books opinion, but this does not make it truth to anyone but you.

Analogy: A racist believes that other races are inferior to him. this is the truth to him. So does this make it all right for him to call other races names to their face.

example. A man hates Indians all the Indians he's met are drunks and stupid. He's read books that reinforce his idea Indians are drunks and stupid. so he feels that it's OK to say "drunken chug" to someone's face after all it's the truth.

Would we not prefer to have this man keep "his" truth to himself?

Some think Christians like to label others but you can't be 'half Christian with God' the first stage of Christianity is to 'stop denial' and believe me it never does get pass looking inwards.

So you than buy into the truth and go around telling everyone whose not Christian their a fool?

Hmmm I think I like the "Half" Christians better. I'd rather a man be in denial and not think less of other humans myself.

Now even here in cyberspace where the connection is etheral thoughts thumbed out on the keyboards, relationships are formed by the gathering of minds, as a christian if I can by any means scream loud enough to stop you or RC or Fledgist or anyone for that matter from dropping over that precipice of unbelief, I will scream in love.

See above. screaming gets us nowhere. We'll all just end up falling off the precipice because we are too busy fighting to look where we are going.

For if we were told that tommorow "God forbid" one of us here had died I would mourn even though I have never set eyes on you.

I would also morn, but death is a fact of life. Death through violence is the kind of death I wish would cease to exist. the passing of anyone brings sadness with it. and especially when there is a personal connection, which even though all of us have never met we have formed a personal connection through our words.

But I'd rather you party when I die personally, my time here was very full. I am always ready when nature decides my course has run it length. Why let the sadness of the passing of one person, bring sadness to many. Rejoice in the fact I was fortunate enough to have known joy, and sadness in all it's glory. If we morn let it be for those that never had a taste of happiness, that never got to make their own choices, or had the knowledge to fill their minds with wonder.

I accept death, as I accept life. we will all die. Lets just hope for each other it is a good death.

The Love of God constrains me and in that love I wish that God would in some way touch you all by these posts mind, souls and spirit.

A noble sentiment, but remember not everyone is eager to be touched by your God. Many have been touched by their own, and whose to say their joy is any less than your own. I am happy with out God and contented with my level of happiness. Embracing something I don't believe would not make me feel any better.

Good for you, not for me.

The day I feel this is but an exercise in vain boasting of our debating skills is the day this moniker will bow out.

I think all of us here have passion in what we believe. But don't be surprised to have your beliefs challenged when you try and sway the belief of other to what you believe. Not all of us think it is the truth, many of us have our own that is just as valid to us.

Look like I stirred up an ants nest. It just occured to me that even when someone claims God and his story is a fairy tale or they don't believe in God anyhow it still seems to get them riled up when someone call them a sinner. Why?

I want you guys to do an assignment. Read the messages to the seven churches in Revelation 2 and 3. Lets start with Ephesus and end with Laodecia.

Lets debate why Philedelphia did'nt recieve a rebuke.

Lets debate this same Jesus 'so gentle meek and mild' words to these churches.

As for the bridge, I mentioned earlier, there were chevrons and warnings some ten miles back warning of bridge under repair the river is also swollen and the bridge is covered with water no lights and its night.

I have just been down that road myself -speeding- went over the brigde and into the river almost drowned, there are a few more cars whose headlights are moving down the river -submerged- I see no other survivors. I have walked back up the road to warn others before its too late, I see a car speeding towards the bridge just like I did.

Do I scream and try to stop im?

Or do I say let him find out for himself I don't want to influence him, let him do it his way.

I say, I'll scream STOP and try my best to wave that car down..

Jesus also told the account of the rich man and the beggar.... and in hell the rich man in torment asked that someone be sent back from the dead to warn his brothers.....to escape this dread place.

Jesus response was they have Moses and the prophets and if someone did come from the dead they still would not believe....

You know the funny thing about that light on the hill. Jesus question is would you hide it under a bushell....

A city set on a hill cannot be hid that's what christianity is all about... its not a secret society, you gotta tell where you stand and set up yourself for criticism when you fail those high standards.

And you will, all the time, everytime, you see our testimony helps keep us honest, if you don't tell nobody you are not accountable to any standards, its like a 'shack up' and a marriage.

In marriage you put yourself and your words up as a testimony.

You make a public vow before friends and family.

When times get rough that vow is intended to hold you accountable.

In a 'shack up' no one makes any public promise you walk when you feel like it. Sadly so too in marriage today.

One day I will face a Holy God, in love ...come ye blessed of my father...or in wrath....depart from me....

I don't want to face him saying I was afraid of the critics and the ridicule I would be faced with if I stood and tell everyone about him, or that I was afraid of living for him so that people would think me too christian, I want to cower and admit all I have done is like 'dung', but I also want to hear I have done something with my talents.

So for me talking about the Great God I serve is just obediance to the command...Go tell....and tell it like he says it and not like I want to.

it just occured to me that people generally dismiss those who call them names and try to cram their personal judgements down their throats. even more so when they use religion to justify their arrogant behavior. why?

I am a believer (just ask Rebel, Fiver, Fledgist, etc., as I always make known to them that I agree to disagree with them concerning such things). But I just think it is wrong to go around quoting scriptures calling them fools just because they don't believe, they've made their choice, and I've made mine, by remaining peaceful with them, I try to set an example of what a believer is like(which is destroyed by calling them [by quoting scriptures that say it, it's the same thing] fools), and perhaps it will, at some point in their lives, become an example they may choose to follow. If they ask me a question about the Bible, I'm more than happy to answer it, but I'm not going to tell them something about it they don't want to hear, the same way they aren't going to try and make me dis-believe in God.
