I'd like to share something.. My second trip to Jamaica(nearly 10 years ago) was to Negril with a girlfriend following the terrible breakup of her marriage here(whole 'nother big story for Dear K!). We seriously did not know the runnings. She had a great time and her self-esteem was boosted greatly at a time when she really needed it. I spent the first 10 minutes feeling I was the most beautiful woman on the planet...followed by a week of fighting off potential suitors like they were rabid wolves. (I must admit though, it is nice to hear how wonderful, beautiful, sexy..you are, even if the motives may not be entirely sound). Anyway, the whole situation unnerved me enough that to this day I've only been back to Negril on day trips. I headed to other parts where I've been able to sit and chill and hear an occasional "you ok?" to which I reply with a smile and a nod, knowing that if trouble arrives, I'll be well looked after by good folks. Part of this comes from knowing people in the areas I frequent and also from being able to handle various situations more effectively(humor always works well! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] ) Anyway, my point is that this thread gives valuable information to women who may be in need of some ways to head off trouble and hold their own. I wish I knew then what I know now!

I just returned from my first trip to JA a couple days ago. This was also my first trip out of the US. What really got to me was everywhere my girlfriend and I went there was another man trying to hit on us. I mean a little attention is good but this was riduculous! I couldn't swim in the ocean without some man all up in my business. I am a quiet person who has the love of my life right here and I did not go there to fool around. The men there did not seem to understand that. But I learned right away to just say I was married right away and you can develop great friendships and really learn about the real Jamaica. But I just don't think I would go there again without a man. For me at least, it is a place I could only truly enjoy with my love. I totally respect the women that can go there alone. Respect!

That said, I've had plenty of interaction with single men in Negril - boat captains, did some cooking with Paula's brother on a busy night at 3 Dives, things like that, and have never even been propositioned. One night at MiYard with a friend I was asked to dance but I said no with a smile and that was that.

Last time we befriended a few people we met up in the cliff's area, and i really hope they are still around. I seem to have a knack for telling when soemone is being honest versus not being honest. I think it sounds like Sala might be a good person to "hang" with and getting good "local" tips on who is who, even though we have never met him yet. Also, I just have a feeling my wife would get along great with Sienna, even though I have no idea who she is, but just reading all the posts, I just have a feeling (is Sienna "with", "married" to Sala?).

I haven't met Sala - we keep misisng each other, but I've met Sienna and known her online for years and you are absolutely right.

My story is not as romantic as many others here. In '95 I went on a girls trip to Ocho Rios and had a ball. i can't remmber if Stella was out or not. One of my fantasies was to do it on the beach in JA. I didn't know who my buddy was going to be or when it was going to happen. On this girls trip we were hanging out at Amnesia in Ocho Rios. The bartender (I can't put his name out there b/c he's on this site sometimes) made a pass at me. Well, I figured he would be a good hook up (FREE DRINKS, cute, broad shoulders, and an awesome smile). My friends and I hung out near his bar all night. Of course they were teasing me and he was loving it! He ended up driving us back to Turtle Towers. He and his boys (he found 4 boys and each of them paired up with my 4 girlfriends) hung out with us for the next couple of nights. Before I left, HE and I ended up near a secluded beach in Ochi and had the best time. I will never forget that night - nothing has even come close. We exchanged phone numbers and called each other about 1-3 times per month. He knew I wasn't interested in a LDR and I think he was but he never said. I traveled there many times - I never went alone so I was always with a group of friends. Time went by and he made it clear that he wanted to be with me but I was still against a LDR. He ended up working on a cruise ship and was able to get a visa and is now living in the states. We see each other often but we'll never be together as a couple.
