Hello magic my name is mrglennzee im headed to jamaica in november for 6 weeks im also plannin a trip to the blue mountains want to walk to the top to watch the sunrise ovva jah..Im just wondering im gonna be travellin solo unless i find somebody else to join mi on this trip,,how much did it cost you to hike to the top?And where did you lodge ??Just wondering im on a limited buget i dont need first class accomidations just the basic bed and shower and food.How long did it take yah to get to the top..If you have any information regaurding this trip please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] would appreciate any information you have to offer,,ops by the way i will be in negril on the westend road from november 26th to jan 8th..thank you and blessings to you. Mr.Glenn, When we get to the Blue Mountains you'll get a good feel of what to expect on the climb. If you travel solo you'll be paired up with two other people if you choose the same company we did. I'll email you their contact info shortly.

Part 9 -Kingston by Starlight

My Uncle’s friend has a jerk stop about a quarter mile past the railroad tracks in Toll Gate and by this time we are hungry for some wicked jerk pork. With homemade sauce and a homemade oven it was pretty good. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70377-loveeyes.gif[/img] After a brief visit and a chat with the owner we headed East, as the sun was setting behind the hills in the rearview mirror.

A new stretch of Highway 3000 has been commissioned since my last visit, and for $150J one can zoom on a freeway that’s “jus like farrin” if not better. Speeds of 120 km/h or whatever the factory gave you are attainable. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70392-silly.gif[/img] The highway now fully bypasses Spanish Town and passengers land back in Jamaica just minutes outside Kingston near Central Village. I file the highway experience in the same place with the Sangster’s jetbridges, and I wouldn’t mind with the project morphs into Highway 4000. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif[/img]

The net of millions of shimmering lights flow down from the towering peaks like a soft vale announcing Kingston. From a distance it’s peaceful and quiet, and quite mysterious. Further investigation reveals a perpetual motion of life, sound, light, and aroma that only the heart and the capitol of Jamaica can afford. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img] We meander throught the maze of streets, left, right, up, down, fast and slow and then arrive just in time for dinner at Uncle Howie’s and Aunt Jennifer’s.

Part 10 - Around Town

We rise early and decide that we need to start an exercise regiment. We're going jogging around the neighborhood. In the morning at that! We start out good but soon the steep streets and beautiful vistas reduce out jog to a power walk. That's alright. It was fun.

We spend our first full day in Kingston meeting with friends and family. After lunch with a friend that was just passing through from MoBay we head out to meet with L.'s uncles. She finds the place right away despite not being there in quite a while and we then go to Portmore to see more cousins and relatives. L.'s surprised by the expansion of the city. They don't call it Greater Portmore for nothing. The causeway project is progressing slowly but surely.

In the evening we meet more friends for dinner. I suggest we go to this one fish place just a few blocks below Manor Park. My friend tells me he knows of the "Fish Place" there. I didn't realise until we got there that the actual name of the establishment is the "Fish Place". Delicious soup followed by steamed fish was consumed. With belly full after supper we hit up the supermarket. We have to stock up for an important adventure scheduled for tomorrow!

Part 11 - Mountain Adventure Introduction

My parents were avid mountain climbers in their youth, and my fondness for high places must have been inherited. However, they chose to get their high in the Himalayas, the Alps and other mountains, I prefer to get mine from behind the controls of an airliner. I still enjoy the mountains though, and it has been a dream of mine for years to conquer Jamaica's most important summit. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70384-praying.gif[/img]

Towering at 7,402ft (2256m), the Blue Mountain Peak is the ultimate "Top of Jamrock". The island is full of mountains big and small, but the thought of being on the very top of the highest summit in the land is irresistible! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70367-help.gif[/img]

Every year I had a different excuse why I couldn't do it. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif[/img] If it's not the lack of proper shoes, it's the necessity of a four wheel drive. Other times the weather is bad. Not to mention the stories of JDF (Jamaica Defense Force) helicopter rescues, and folks lost for 5 days. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif[/img] Of course all my friends gave me a suspicious look that said '"Crazy mad, head no good!" [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70392-silly.gif[/img] If all my other excuses failed, the thought of near freezing temperatures always did the trick of convincing me to postpone the feat "til next time."

The next time was here, and I was climbing the Big One this summer, come hell or high water! I managed to convince L. to join me. Poor thing didn't know what she was getting herself into! But then again, neither did I.

Those who "dine" and not "grab an nyam", may appreciate this posting. I have a love affair with food. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70377-loveeyes.gif[/img] Maciek can tell you. I love the different smells, colors, taste and the different textures of food as it enters your mouth, graces your tongue and the insides of your cheek. Presentation is also key. If it's not pretty to look at, mi no want it. The food at the jerk stop was finga lickin gooood. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70371-jump.gif[/img] And that's exactly how we ate it, with our fingers. I asked the storekeeper if she had any sauce to go with it. She offered a honey-coloured jelly in an unmarked jar. I was a little skeptical [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] at first but i'm adventurous when it comes to trying new food and said, yeh man. It was a peppered mango jelly. It was our first taste of mango since we arrived and it was sweet, sweet but with a hot, spicy kick to it...kinda like me [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] . The mango jelly was a welcome soothing to the searing heat of the jerk pork. It was so good Maciek and I asked for seconds. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner's wife who created this tantilizing concoction. I will definitely be back to JA, for nothing else but this peppered mango jelly with some jerk pork.
