Well every year ppl go a road wid dem cawd board sign bout "we want drustice" cah dem tiyad fi mash up dem cyar inna di pothole dem weh big like lake wen time rain fall an now di government a try implement a system fi ease congestion and build more roads is a hullaballoo since smaddy haffi help pay di cost. Memba seh a nuh everybody pay property tax in Portmore. And revenue from taxes alone cannot pay fi dat. Mi tink di price kine a high still but ppl need fi be reasonable bout it. Imagine yu haffi wake up and leff yu yard a 4AM so yu nuh ketch inna Mandela Hwy traffic. Dat is slackness. Mi tink dem need fi lower it still. Cah in di long run every 1 gwen benefit from it.

ppl pay taxes so when potholes deh inna road (among other things) dat mean say di ppl dem money naw spend di right way an smaddy probly a pocket it. the reasonable action to take in face of such circumstance cannot be to take away a taxpaid roadway and give it to foreigners to charge tolls.

$60 is a lot of money, yes, especially when the national minimum wage is $2,400 per week and the hourly rate for security guards is $90.

Since you ask the only one line question(s) let me answer here.

I cannot go into all the details about the new tolling system in Jamaica but let me ask these questions:

Why
<ul type="square">[*]would a Government take bridge paid for by the local resident give it to a foreign company to charge a toll for[*]did the GOJ not build the bridge itself[*]did the GOJ make an agreement with a private company that forces them to keep the competing roads and transport systems (including trains, ferries, etc), in a virtual state of disrepair?[*]would it be necessary to imprison a bedroom community, with no public hospital, government offices, or markets into a toll regime[*]would the GOJ suddenly include a toll bridge into their tolling regime, when they had been no plans in the so-called Highway 2000 scheme
just over a one mile toll bridge cost so much to build[/list]
The other problem is what of the access and egress if those roads are maintained/unmaintained in dual lanes or pocked marked with potholes? How is this going to enhance hamper the free flow on the new bridge?
Surely this must be the world's highest toll, in cash, sweat and blood for just over one mile of toll bridge albeit with six lanes.

My conclusion, Portmore residents are seen as a giant milking cow to support the GOJs/Bouygues other highway networks.
