nylah, great report. thorouhly enjoying miself. loved the audio from the kids, remind me of what is so wonderful bout jcan children - theyre so full of life and confidence.

we went to portland in 2006 and i remember that it was very run down, well port antonio was. for a parish that have nuff rain they seem to rely a lot on wood buildings, which seem to me to rot pretty quick with all that moisture. but who knows, maybe is still better than concrete.

when i was a pickney at santa cruz primary all dem decades ago, one of the things they taught us was that because of the tradewinds, portland got lots of rain. however the rains never reach santa because of the mountains (santa being on a plain). i remember feeling quite vex that the mountains stopped the rains, growing up in santa, anxiety about water and drought was a fact of life. for years after migration i could not sing the song about rain rain go away.

your pix of the homes are marvellous. u really giving a great sense of the laid back portland life.

I think alot of those wooden houses are from a long time past b/c where there were new houses going up or newer houses that what I was observing, they were made out of concrete.

Kanopi said they have no issues with wood rot - I didnt think to ask why at the time - so there must be something we are missing about the wood and their rainy air.

Personally, I dont like concrete houses. I understand why they are necessary but I will never like the look of them over wood. I love would buildings. And the ambience that the wood creates against the flora lushness just cannot be beat.


The trade off for Portland getting all that rain and not you is how much hurricane catch them....We took a drive thru Long Bay one day and there are still many sopts that have not recovered from the last one including the road

Man, I am starting to blush at the compliments I am really happy ppl are enjoying my report and not yawning thru it

I wish I was better at changing my camera settings because to capture the ligh that bounces across ppl and things better than I have would have been truly lovely for me. Portland goes from clouy to brightly sunny in no time flat.

THe only explanation I have is, the inside of my arm hadnt gotten too much sun yet so that &quot;white&quot; arm you see is my normal colour I slathered sunblock on the backside of my arms and everywhere else and I still brown up alot. Nuttin can beat back the sun in JA

Once my belly was full and I promised I wouldn’t forget Richard and promised I would come back to visit we set out to the Falls.

We get to the Falls late in the day so part of the distance up was barred. It wasn’t worth paying and i we didn’t have a long time to make our way around. That was fine with me. I wasnt up to no big big hike anyways.

Entrance to the Falls where u pay your money. If you are just visiting the restuarnat or only going up the side Falls then there is no fee.

Somerset Falls is beautiful...you know that was my orignal venue for my wedding but at the time the roads were so bad people were complaining about getting there. Who knows, maybe three years from now it wll be an ideal spot to renew our vows

definitely now The roads are smooth as a baby's bum so travelling will be no problem for <span style="font-weight: bold"> us</span> guests

I just called my bro and told him to forward me the videos since it was his camera I was using on the trip and the camera died before I got everything off of it. Soon Come.

We make our way down to the bar.

Hang out with a Red Stripe in hand with the Head security guard. This was the final time I would drink Red Stripe on the trip. I got sick once again after drinking it and I only drank stripes nuttin else



You can see how some ppl lose them senses in JA. A bunch of younger folks were hanging out around the corner of the restuarant. One girl comes up and asks the Security Guard for a light with spliff in hand

My man, was like wha di......? And he start to cuss her that ganja is in face IILGEGAL in JA....ahn she look on him like he was MAD in the head eediat gal. If it was any one else her a*zzz could have been in some serious trouble.

Tiredness starts to creep up on me again.

The bad night’s sleep was still haunting me so we head back to town.

As we approach town, B suggests that I check out Dickie’s Best Kept Secret and make reservations I felt to. We stop and go inside and I speak to Dickie and his wife.

I get to look around and I make reservations for Saturday evening for a lobster dinner.

You must call a day in advance and request your food since they buy everything fresh each day. There is no set menu but if you are really stuck they will give you suggestions.



The restuarant is located just a few minutes pass the new court house as you are leaving Portie A on your right. It looks like it is sliding own the cliff

It is a funky neat place that is built into the side of the cliff. A little hard to manoveur in but that is part of the charm.

We head back into town and B takes me to Kamal’s supermarket to pick up some supplies.

I didn’t feel like I wanted anything but B insisted I go and just see I there was anything I wanted. I wander around the store and buy some more liquor and some eventually some snacks.

Kamal is located in the heart of town next to the Musgrave market. As the trip went on I stopped going to that store an went to Ramtulla's grocery store which is a bit further out but much nicer an less crowde. Kamal's however does have a better likka supply.

Nuff ppl still about the streets just hangin out. Portie feels nothng like Ochi. Everyone else is in a hurry and rush in Ochi but even with all the ppl on the street in POrtie noone is joslting anyone. Everyone is just doing their thing.

We arrive back at the guesthouse and B brings my stuff up stairs. IT was totally unnecessary since I am not that weak I start to wonder what his expectations are but I just keep everything real chill. I was getting the feeling that I I gave him the proverbial inch he was willing to take a mile….But I wasn’t interested in none of that.

He promises to pick me up tomorrow and take me to Buff Bay on time.
I wanted to pay him or spending the day with me but he in true ja style wouldn’t give me a price.

I had no idea how to judge what was fair or not and so I told him so. I said wha happen i I decide on a price in my head but it turns out that it isnt enough. And you wont say nuttin to me about it but will feel away towards me. I said I don’t want that to happen and B laughs an promises that that will never happen with me

So he says, I tell you want, I will be your chaffueur from now to Sunday when u leave. My time is my time, so I want to give u my time and when I am with u and u buy me a juice then I am happy. And at the end o the week u give me what u feel is good….I said that is nice but it still doenst help me.

He laughs after me and says good night.

I strip out of my clothes cause the day had been hot and B doesn’t like A/C too tough in the car. I am gonna insists from here on out that the A/C blow at least part of the time cause I cant take the heat....A wikkid heat rash was beginning for me
