my understnding is that anybody can own property in the US regarless of status..and banks are free to extend mortgages to anybody the deem worth regardless of status also.

Even if it <span style="font-weight: bold">IS</span> legal, it's not right.

Just because something is legal, doesn't mean you should be doing it. That's sorta how we ended up in this mortgage mess to begin with.

If you have to cut corners to buy a place, maybe it's not the right time for you to be buying it ...

He still has to buy the house and pay fro the value of it. Not only that if he had intent on buying it for his daughter's investment, then by all means seek a better interest rate.
