I did not intend on turning down the amount again and wanted my peace. I have had the situation before and it leads to harassment. These people seem to be persistent with giving as they when begging.
My last encounter was with a Slovakian woman I was in a seminar and she thought she was being helpful and didnt take it easy when i turned down her help to translate everything i was saying - dem couldnt understand me because of field not the language, i had to constantly insult her but this was a four month period like this was a one hour ride. That can get tiring. in the end i decided to use her services because me min waan match up de ress cause everybody say she talk to high - well she is a translator. so everything me say, me tell she translate

I saw that film when i was small, and I tell you I am not lying that is why I wouldnt live in the US, it left a bad impression on me. you have enough opportunity to live out that. dem primitive here

personally I have seen in many places old ladies giving children sweets.... Be it in hte UK , Jamica, Europe ect. In Libya and other parts of Africa it is the norm. I recall my daugter when she was about 2 would run at full tilt to get to a shop where the guy would give her a sweet with a smile. <span style="font-weight: bold">Craven or simply the childish behaviour</span>....

Usually I take it as a method of connecting with children of acknowleging beauty youth and vigour... But have it reduced to simply craven strikes me as disengenious... Kindness to kids equal ulterior motives....it is the exception not the norm and if we demonise adults to such an extent ????? God almighty &quot;craven choke and kill puppy&quot;. I never understood that when adults told me that as a child and it stikes me as equally simplistic<span style="font-weight: bold">doc dudd would have something to say as to the pscological motivation of children... </span>The sentiment in that cliche to be applied to children is sickening....

What is fascinating to me about this thread is not the giving, its the context and the amount of money involved. My motehr an old lady I have seen give sweets to children after asking their mother.. Sometimes the mother says dont.. they are about to have their merienda. I asked her about that she said its kind.. She also notes never to give sweets to them without their parents consent. (My motehr also takes chocolates to her bank and gets treated like a millionairess when she goes there..).

Being pleasant to children should be a norm....We have to temper the interaction between caution and humanity... Put it all in context. Unlike blkgain I can see white people being human and derive pleasure from kindness.

I fully agree and it is rather touching. I remembered it as shared enjoyment for the giver as well as the receiver as a child. We do have some joy dampers for proverbs lol
But I think based on experiences I do have rights to suspect other motives.

'His eyes are bigger than his stomach'. You've heard that one before, haven't you? That statement, like 'Craven will choke puppy' is an <span style="font-style: italic">individualized truism</span>.

A grandmother saying that to her grandkids, or any other <span style="font-style: italic">kid</span> that she knows, is not trying to be offensive or 'sickening' as you call it. She's saying that he can't see the dangers involved in biting off more than he can chew. He's a puppy and the experience of recognizing the pitfalls will only come with age.

So what if our grandmothers were more concerned with getting their points across with incisive 3 to 5 word stories? It served its purpose. And they were too busy trying to eke out a living and safeguarding us to try to get their points across using flowery speech so as not to offend or be 'sickening'...

Actually almost all our stories work by fear and sickening principles to get the message across. I remembered in many tales about being warned to have ambition or things like 'falla fashin daag never get fat'

Are you serious? This is funny. On second thought, I suppose, it is about time that the tables were turned...with good intentions.

Being of Africaribbean descent, you should know what kindness has done to black, brown and red people of the world.

My days as a child in Jamaica, the so called &quot;Black Hearts&quot; used LOLLIPOPS to entice the children!

I shall continue to teach my children and hopefully grandchildren to use everything in their power to secure dignity and pride over greed, no matter what others might want to call them.
