That would not happen in Jamaica. They know that English is important and they would never REPLACE it with Patwa. Jamaica would not collapse into the ground if English and Jamaican Creole were co-official languages.

</div></div> They know english is important, but they do not have the interest of the majority as an objective. the objective is ti create a real permanent underclass, like they have done in Haiti. The Upper class can speak french, but understand creole, while the lower class speak only creole. It is almost that way today, with English as the official language. since they are socializing the teachers to believe that patois's a better tool of learning for Jamaican children. the next step will be gradually replacing English in schools with predominantly blacks, that mean the majority and have teachers in other schools teaching exclusively in English. They in another decade, the division will be complete. Children reach the highest level of education they can and can't read a legal document they are required ti sign since it is done in one of the official language. Only they don't speak that one. Just like Haiti.

And I Know that every Jamaican understand both English and patois ti day. I just don't understand why the effort they are putting in teaching another subject in school that children already know enough to get on in society, is worth the sacrifice in time and money instead of furthering the knowledge in English so that they speak it more fluently. At least we could get them a lot more of the jobs that the Indians get now answering phones for US a companies. If Jamaica spend enough effort on teaching English they could increase the employment level to full employment in offshore tele services. instead of spending money on ......

yu know seh up yah dem have 2 official languages. an if yu want certain jobs yu betta mek sure seh yu read an write both. and even within the two official languages there is also different dialects. yet no one who speaks only one of the languages is considered an underclass.

Now they will have a legitimate excuse to import foreigners for all the front desk and management jobs in the tourist industry. And I see they are about to start a financial industry,that will need lot of English speaking professionals. will they should be doing more to upgrade the English speaking skills of the majority instead of wasting money on nonsense.

The former head of the bank of Nova Scotia did believe he was not in the underclass one year ago too. He just realize it now.
They don't call blacks n1gger in their faces. They don't have to. they do it in action instead of words.
the thing is that predicted his demise, but couldn't even imagine he was held at such low level of the underclass. .
He work his whole life for the corporation spending the last 13 years as the ahead. during that period although the financial sector crashed. his bank not only was unscathed. They made a profit under his direction.
Whatever he did.
which is to have the gall to want to head the white dominated Private sector organization. And further more went public about their policy. That was enough.he did not rob the bank. although I am sure that he could have found ways to do so.Yet they retired him with a an offer of one year salary in lue of his pension. Now that is low.

The question that goes always goes unanswered in this perpetual argument about Jamaican patois is... say that "the government" makes patois an "official" or the laughable "co-official" language of Jamaica. What good will this do for Jamaicans? Will it encourage Jamaicans to read more?

Yeah, they definitely don't only speak Haitian Kreyol in Haiti. They speak it on differnt caribbean islands, south florida, new york, etc. There are even different dialects of it and they can understand each other just fine. Ex: Haitian Kreyol & Antillean Creole (Spoken in Martinique, Guadaloupe, French Guiana, etc.) The same can also be said for Jamaican Creole. <span style="color: #006600">Different dialects of Jamaican Creole are spoken</span> in not only places like South FL, NYC, Boston, etc, but also Belize, the coast of Costa Rica, The coast of Panama, the coast of Nicaragua, the Cayman Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Bahamas, Antigua, Grenada, Guyana...

There is even a form of Jamaican Creole spoken in Sierra Leone, Africa! This is because when the slaves were freed in Jamaica, a huge population of them went back to Sierra Leone and brought Patwa with them and now that dialect of Jamaican Creole (which is known in Sierra Leone as <span style="color: #006600">Krio</span>) is now the lingua franca (the laguage of the people) just like Patwa (patois) has been in Jamaica.

I think it's about time that that they standardized <span style="color: #006600">Jamiekan</span>. </div></div>
