I think you will find that the most objections to tourism will come from jamaicans who have actually left jamaica,those who have the least to gain from tourism,they have managed to secure themselves a visa to pastures new so its easy to stand on self righteous pillar boxes and condemn from afar that which doesnt affect them directly,its a common jamaican trait.........pull up the drawbridge after you have crossed.

There are far more wickedly evil things going on in jamaica than tourism,but the christian fundamentalists and other fringe loonies will only pick on easy targets,...they wouldnt dare say one word against the real perveyors of corruption,murders,rapists,and filth.

Still and though Neut I still say it is THEIR country there or not, and opinions are like <span style="color: #FF0000">you know what's </span>everyone has one...so they have a right to voice them.

But this is what cracks me up about the locked thread, and then this one, the locked thread re-visited....I asked prolific poster once about one of those ANTI_TOURIST threads they started and was summarily, completely ignored. NO ANSWER or dialogue with me WHAT SO EVER (which is normal for that person)....but now everyone wants to know WHO I was talking about and why I made the statement.


DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH day in day out , week end week, year end, year out, at EVERY opportunity, some folks trash bash slice and dice tourists, knowing that there are many tourist on here. Though the posters may not be specifically talking to any one of us per se, and though hopefully most of us do not commit the &quot;crimes&quot; and social mishaps that are decried in these posts, from time to time you just can't help but feel a little....shall I say Unwanted?

So if you are one of those people who feel that way....do you need ME to remind you that you feel that way...nope... and is there anything that I can do about it....nope....so what does it matter who I'm talking about...if you don't like tourist, tourism or whatever in Jamaica...no need to worry about it now that I brought it up in one likkle sentence over on the &quot;safe' board.

Depending on what your position and particular job is within the industry....not all positions require that you bow and grin and shuffle Blu.

I have a friend who is in the business but never comes in contact with the tourist. He manages the bell staff, sets their schedules and supervises the front desk operations, but he only comes in contact with his Jamaican staff members, not the guests.

In retrospect, I wonder why the government of Jamaica, starting back in the 70's didn't place a restriction on how many all inclusive resorts could be built on the island. Say for instance that for every ten new hotels or resorts constructed only (perhaps two) could be set up as an all inclusive facility (use a lottery system to choose who gets to build an AI resort). At least this would have forced the creation of more resorts where guest would have to go and venture out to small locally owned restaurants, nightclubs, and shopping stalls to spend their money. I wonder how that would have affected tourism over the years?

It is nat the furst, sekand nar turd time. err third time that this topic has come up, and I told miself nat to even boddah to comment, but as Jamaican who has seen the deterioration the North Coast, I am tempted to say this.

I had co-workers who would sell their clothes just to stay in Ja for the big bamboo..

Alla dat being said....the history of prostiution giging in Jamaica etc.....is up to the people of Jamaica to police this/stop it.

I didn't like it going on a few miles from me, you have a right not to like it going on in your home...but Jamaica has to stop it.

Do you know that to get to Shades in Ochii you are right smack in the middle of a very nice residential subdivision? House across the street, house to the left, house to the right. Maybe in those houses are families with kids...Here such an establishment could not exist in a residential area due to zoning laws, but as long as Jamaica allows this business, and other's like it (by the way, is that Club still in that castle in NEgril? You'd shudder to know what goes on there), anyway...like I said , clean up your own house, if it's not there, the slackness would have to let up some nuh tru?

Exactly, what applies to one, most likely doesn't apply to everyone...this is why a person cannot think that certain comments apply to them when they don't.


Where the sex trade is concerned, years ago it didn't exist, or to that degree...I guess the poorer Jamaicans are simply fulfilling the demand. Can one imagine where no one wants to buy their goods? [then] they simply would have to sell somewhere else, but the demand is there, so...and, this is the whole point, our Police Department is already &quot;stretched thin&quot;..for them to pursue &quot;Johns and Janes&quot; for a<span style="font-style: italic"> malum in se</span> crime is simply futile, based on the history in other countries, and Jamaica's lack of resources...still yet, hefty fines could be some sort of deterrent for the customer and for the suppliers.

Spending a few nights in a Jamaican jail could do the &quot;trick&quot; as well...no pun intended.
