I should have asked what Third World country of similar population and poverty levels has accomplished what Cuba has done in less than 50 years and while at war with the United States but I would have figured you'd have the intelligence to understand what I was saying in context.

For instance Jamaica has a per capita income level about US$1000.00 higher than does Cuba and Jamaica placed 100th in human development.

Fidel's leadership and all the Cuban people involved in it have placed Cuba at a very high level of human development not possible under totalitarian capitalism. His brother Raul now leads that continuing and evolving revolution and has the support of some 95% of the Cuban people.
You may not care for equality and democracy but the Cuban people do.

If you are calling Cuba a dictatorship then you have no idea of how the Cuban electoral system works. It is far more democratic than the Jamaican or United States electoral forms. You'd know that if you'd take the time to read a book or two on it.

As for the European Union's opinion of Cuba: try to remember that they are rabidly anti-socialist. They oppose Cuba's revolution. They are so obviously biased to the point that I would think you'd try to find a more impartial source for your post.

I've just checked them out and what they have to say in depth about Cuba in context differs widely from what you posted.
They are pro-Cuban and said that the Cuban leadership is both aware of the historic racism on the island and in Hispanic cultures in general and that the Cuabn leadership was working to correct that racism.

I don't claim to have scientific facts to back my opinion but as someone who has visited Cuba on a regular basis between 1982 -2009 my view is this.

Generally</span> in the vast majority of hotels I have stayed in over the years, no matter if they are of the 4 star or 2 star variety, the hotel management, front office and reception personnel are almost always fair skinned. On the other hand blacks seem to be relegated to working at jobs which give them little or no reason for any regular contact with hotel guest. Such positions include cooks, maids, security guards and gardeners etc... .

Latino Blacks are still placed and seem to be allowing themselves to be so positioned, out of sight, behind the limelight.
It was a few years ago at the previous football World Cup for the first time, where Ecuador had 10 Blacks out of 11 representing their country.
Up till now, Blacks are regarded equal only and perhaps lower than the native Indians that dwell in the rain forests out of sight, in the dim light.

i have read the excerpts but i am not overly impressed with superficial &amp; sometimes incorrect analysis done by a foreigner with limited experience of my born-land...
i wish he would have also mentioned that the brainwashing of the african-jamaican's mind was systematically &amp; scientifically implemented over a period of hundreds of years, (and should go into detail here ) backed by the full might of the british empire...global white-supremacy, hidden imperialism and the monroe doctrine...global powers who have the strength and the will to support heads that they know will only mis-lead certain nations for <span style="font-style: italic">their</span> interests...

yes he states many truths that he gathered from his studies and experiments...
but still there are some glaring mis-steps which the trained eye catches immediately...
his superficial mention of marcus garvey is quite disappointing when garvey is a giant of the african world and was born in this same jamaica which he describes as &quot;dead&quot;...

&quot;the dead yard&quot;---jam-dung produced garvey...also produced j.a. rogers...produced the maroons...produced leonard howell, archibald dunkley, and other great thinkers...the rastafarian movement (to him a 'cult'--which is quite insulting) which is influential worldwide...

yet mr. thomson, in his introduction, lists only the music, the physical beauty of the island &amp; the athletic prowess as the 'wonderful' things of jamaica...

respect still...as you can see i was wondering who this author was...;
writers have to write books and they have their motives...

if mr thomson's book awakens a few lost souls then great...
i just hope it leads them to actual jamaicans &amp; other caribbean-africans who have analyzed the situation on deeper levels over the years as well---and continue to do so...

the racism in latin-america is much deeper than communism or capitalism...it is in the mind...it is cultural...no other 'ism' can just wipe away that 'ism' in one fell swoop
