And I see no reason for her to have kicked his knee laterally. A good proper kick to the knee like that can bust it up pretty badly. Not that hers was good hard kick... </div></div>

i agree she had no reason to kick him...she should be charged criminally for assaulting the officer...but i still would never support his reaction.

Essentially, that <span style="font-style: italic">is</span> what drives a cop, 'at the end of the day' - he (or she) wants to stay alive to go home to their family. I'm not saying it's the right thing, just that it's what happens. And it's not even something that most cops are conscious of.

I agree with you, Rich. She should be charged, as you say.

I am not saying that the cop should have kicked her in the face like that... but I am saying that I understand why he reacted as he did - why he kicked her like that.

Okay, look... he's got a woman handcuffed, she's obviously combative - for whatever reason. We don't know what she's been cuffed (or being arrested) for, but we can see that it was not easy to subdue her and cuff her, 'cause she's still fighting, even cuffed. His BP is racing, his adrenaline is pumping; he can't help but be on edge right now... it's chemical.

She kicks out and contacts his knee. Her kick was aimed to damage his knee, he knows that. True - she didn't have enough power to damage it... but she meant to do it, and she tried. His adrenaline level flares even higher. He's under attack. Fight back! His brain is screaming to him to fight back. He may feel fear, or anger, or both. He levels a good hard kick to her face, meant to put her down and stop her. He connects.

I understand what happened. That doesn't mean that I condone it, but I understand it.

Now do you understand? (not asking you to condone, just to understand what went on in the cop's mind)

the woman is cuffed...we don't know what went on before ..wed don't even know if he was actually involved in cuffing her....we see him writing in his notebook..she kicks at him ..he kicks her int he head and continues writing...hardly even a glance at her. adrenaline you say? :think;

FWIW: RIch, if it were you in cuffs and the cop kicked you in your head, I'd make certain to avenge you twice. Once on the spot (physically) and once in court (law suit).

I think we all agree there is bad policing found EVERYWHERE.

Regardless of what our general view is however, cops have a high stress job. Could you do that job? I know I couldn't! And when cops show up at a call with a gun in play. Milo, earlier this week there was a news item about a man who was brandishing a gun, and held police at bay for a while, there was a number of cops with guns drawn. the guy later surrendered, and it was found that he had a fake gun.

i looked at the images of the cops all with their guns waiting for this guy to make a move, and without even seeing the guy, i knew he was white (which he was). had it been a black man, he would have been shot and wrapped up, hands dusted.

i'm surprised at the excuse you are making that what drives a cop is staying alive to go home to their families. so essentially, u are giving them a pass to apply aggression as a first resort. that's not

he job of a cop, and if they cannot manage it, they should get out of the profession. </div></div>

We agree on a lot here. Again, there is bad policing, remember Edmond Yu? That poor guy was not a threat to anyone and he was shot down in cold blood. But if he did have a gun and was refusing to obey the police request to lower or drop it then he would have possed a danger that could result in death and if he was killed then it would have been understandable IMHO. As far as the claim of black men being more likely to be killed by police than white men in similar circumstances, you are absolutely correct. That continues to be an ongoing issue which needs to be addressed by police services everywhere.

its funny we can reason the cops reaction when he kicks a human in the head like this, but lets say it was a trapped dog that bit at the cop, would he not be branded as inhumane to kick the tied up dog in the head?
lets say a someone walking by a caged animal.. say a horse in one of those trailers, and the horse kicks the person, should the person turn around and kick the horse in the head... or should the person simply move out of the reach of the horse?

Assault of a police officer can be your quickest ticket to the grave. Crazy stuff. Did she really expect him to just stand there and not react? Afterall, he is human, trained or not. I am sure he did not think about kicking her in the head, it just happened to land there.

Some white people have a whole lot of nerves. If that woman were black, all she'd have to do is eyeball a cop and she'd be toast or in a wheelchair.

Apples and Oranges. Horses kick in defense. Only a fool would try and kick a horse, when kicking is what horses do best, I think.

If a person kicks another person, then they should expect to be kicked in return, and where they get kicked is not negotiable.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't intend that either, but his action afterward belies his humanity. His booted foot lands with momentum on her face; she lands heavily on the concrete. She seems to be out cold. He doesn't even break a sweat, he continues writing.
