Therein is a contradiction which is one of those things that stem when we rabbit trail the tread... let us get back to the point of why the 2 young women and their family members who are fight over a man a dead one at that aren't being called on that... The buddy is gone and as Vegas he was probably a broke azz anyway. Dem all need a fine baxiding if you ask me. Would we have felt differently about them if they were dressed like hutterites and fighting over a dead man at a funeral?

Nope. Even if they were wearing burkahs it would be inappropriate behaviour...

Diandra Grandison, Staff Reporter A brawl between four women at the burial of a man on Sunday evening, has been met with shock and disgust after the heated scuffle was caught on tape and circulated on numerous social networking sites. The melee, which took place in St Catherine, was allegedly due to the women fighting over a deceased man in his late 20s, who died in July. What triggered the fight is unclear, however, a woman said it was the mother of one of the women involved in the fight who allegedly started it. The fight was allegedly between the two girls, one with her mother defending her and the other with a female being identified as either her sister or cousin doing the same. In the almost 11-minute long video, the women who were scantily clad, could be seen chasing each other across the burial grounds, engaging in fist fights which resulted in clothes being torn and breasts being exposed, while hurling missiles such as shoes, stones and purses at each other. One of the girls whose breasts were out of her dress, confronted the semi-nude mother, stating "Mi and Candy inna war! Me and you nuh inna nuttin! Mi know how ole yuh be! Yuh in yuh 40s! You're a big woman, mi nuh fight wid big woman!" But the older woman was still up in arms and ready to defend her child. Mourners could also be seen scampering behind the rambunctious women, some jeering and cheering them on while others attempted to quell them. One mourner remarked, "First mi eva see gyal a fight ova dead ..., him look good fi true," while displaying a programme with the deceased man's image to the camera. Another stated, "None a di gyal dem weh a fight over di dead man nuh look good, dem ugly ..." The women were eventually pacified after police intervened with the mother giving a stern warning to her daughter's attacker, "It nuh done yah suh. Finish we a go finish it later!" The video, which was originally posted on video sharing site YouTube, received almost 3,000 views before it was removed from the website two days ago. The garish film received numerous negative comments from viewers. One Facebook user commented, "Man a real boss! All when him dead woman a fight ova him!" Another remarked, "This is quite embarrassing. This is why men most times don't respect 'some' women because of their confrontational and embarrassing attitude."

I'm not approving or disapproving scantily clad women but women fighting at ripping the other's clothes off at a funeral over the deceased speaks to something deeper than what they were wearing which I think is we should be discussing especially if we would be concerned no matter what they wore. Women should never be fighting over a man ever.

Why are you attempting to limit the scope of the discussion when the original article did not? The original article spoke about the attire and the behaviour. Some women fought and dresses got ripped off but the one in the gold pulled down her own dress for what purpose...beats me.

Anyway, Vannie posted this and I expected to see people say yes this is disgusting, shocking inappropriate behaviour and attire. Maybe 2 pages of comments tops then next.

you know, it is somewhat fascinating to see how threads that start off as one topic inevitably get spun into a dissertation on board treatment of a certain member, once that member enters the thread. i was kinda hoping to contribute info about the funeral arrangements of a member of my family, but i think i'll wait till the thread gets back on track.

you almost had me, Wallie. i was saying to myself - this man really knows me... then you said one thing and i realized the fabrication - i have no derriere. i am malformed in that regard, and i am cursed by my children who have inherited that deficiency from me.

i went to my usual Cassidy for a definition of "butu" but what i found there did not offer a meaning close to the one used in this discussion. Jamaica Talk was first published in 1961, so i'm thinking the slang "butu" came after that time.

can't remember the circumstances where i first heard the term, but a part of me recalls that it had an association with dark-skinned as well. that a butu girl was lower class, unsophisticated and doing a poor job imitating her social superiors and most likely dark-skinned. so to a certain degree, i feel a disconnect when i hear it used to describe someone light-skinned.

I can't comment on what goes on at strip joints or ghetto dancehalls as I don't frequent those establishments. Those are the only places where I would expect to see that type of attire or behaviour

This has nothing to do with superiority except when it comes to morality or rather the lack of morality displayed by the people in the video.

Sounds like condoning to me. If you did not approve of the behaviour you and your female counterpart would not be slinging mud at me for condemning it.
