Jazz, aright aright! Yuh can sidung now. I am convinced. I am adding it to mi Christmas list.
Well, actually, I was convinced two days ago when I was on a plane from London and was really excited about finishing a book on my 6hr flight when the darn huge hardcover burst mi favorite travel bag. Too darn heavy
I did get to read the book on the plane, but kept thinking about how and if my bag could be mended. I paid a decent amount for that bag too. Not Coach money or anything, but decent enough. And mi did really really love it.
Hopefully the price of the kindle will drop by Christmas. My only concern is that I may spend double the price on books because I would still buy the books I read just so they can go on my bookshelf.

Those holders are cute but I prefer the slide in sleeve cause I like the feel of the bare kindle in my hand when reading.

Yes u can do some limited surfing and they are still developing it. It also has a built in dictionary and access to Wiki online.

You can also upload PDF files to take with you on the road... u can upload mp3 files which can play in the background while u read...

one charge with wireless turned off lasts a really long time... up to 2 weeks and less with wireless turned on maybe 3-4 days.

DID I already say how much I love it... Next week I plan to be on a beach in Jamaica - choosing from my selection of over 60 books (it maxes out at around 1500) while morgan Heritage or Bob or Beres or Tarrus Riley keeps me company... and the best part is that all that is contained in a device no thicker than a pencil

I consider this thing one of the BEST things ever invented...

Don;t get me wrong - I have still love my books and whenever I really enjoy a book - I go out and buy it in hardcover for my collection - I have several large bookcases full and that won;t change - but for bedtime, travel and vacation reading - nothing beats the Kindle plus no matter where u are u have instant gratification with the instant download feature!!!

did I mention that I love it!!!

This first episode of The Tomorrow Show, concerning the Future of Paper, was an adventure for us. And I never thought I'd use the words &quot;paper&quot; and &quot;adventure&quot; in the same sentence.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not one of those paper haters, blaming the sorry state of the environment on office workers with hair-trigger printer fingers. Yes, it's inefficient to print out the 24-page Wikipedia entry on the Beatles when a simple Google search will remind you that the name of Ringo's predecessor was Pete Best. (You really should know this without having to look it up.)

But paper consumption is not even near the top of our list of eco-threats. A sheet of paper can be recycled five times before the fibers grow too short. And while paper consumption doubled between 1980 and 2000, it's been on a slow decline since then.

No, I'm not anti-paper. I just thought it was kind of boring. I took it for granted. (I hadn't set foot in a Kate's Paperie in years.) When you watch this piece, hopefully you'll come to appreciate and care for paper in the same way I have.

Sony plans to offer an e-book reader with the ability to wirelessly download books. That adopts a key feature of the Kindle from Amazon.com and enhances the competition in a small but fast-growing market.

The $399 (U.S.) Reader Daily Edition will be on the market by December, Sony executives said Tuesday at an event at the New York Public Library. <span style="font-weight: bold">The device, which has a 7-inch touch screen, will be able to get books, daily newspapers and other reading material over AT&amp;T Inc.'s cellular network</span>.

Sony has produced e-book reading devices with “electronic ink” displays for the U.S. market since 2006, but has seen most of the attention stolen by Amazon.com Inc., which launched the Kindle in 2007. The latest version of the Kindle – which is not controlled by touching the screen – costs $299 and uses Sprint Nextel Corp.'s wireless network for downloads.

Sony recently announced a “Pocket Edition” e-book reader that retails for $199. Sony also has a $299 touch-screen model. But neither has wireless capabilities – both have to be connected to a computer to acquire books.

Sony's U.S. shares rose 43 cents, 1.6 per cent, to $27.01 in morning trading, while Amazon gained 70 cents, less than 1 per cent, to $85.20.

A new study analyzing the Amazon Kindle electronic book reader’s impact on the environment suggests that, on average, the carbon emitted over the life of the device is offset after the first year of use.

“It’s not just buying e-books that matters,” said the report’s author, Emma Ritch, of San Francisco-based Cleantech Group. “The key is they displace the purchase of 22.5 physical books.” Ms. Ritch said.

“The new study finds that e-readers could have a major impact on improving the sustainability and environmental impact on the publishing industry, one of the world’s most polluting sectors,” a statement at Cleantech’s Web site states. “In 2008, the U.S. book and newspaper industries combined resulted in the harvesting of 125 million trees, not to mention wastewater that was produced or its massive carbon footprint.”

The report asserts that printed books have the highest per-unit carbon footprint — which includes its raw materials, paper production, printing, shipping, and disposal — in the publishing sector. “In the case of a book bought at a bookstore,” Ms. Ritch said, Cleantech’s measurement “takes into account the fossil fuels necessary to deliver to the bookstore and the fact that 25-36 percent of those books are then returned to the publisher, burning more fossil fuels.”

After that, Ms. Ritch said, there are three common next steps: “The publisher then incinerates, throws away or recycles them,” she said.

According to Sarah Rotman Epps, a media analyst with Forrester Research in Cambridge, Mass., which supplied some of the data for the report, first-quarter e-book sales in 2009 accounted for a scant 1.6 percent, or $113 million in revenue, in the $24.3 billion publishing industry. “Right now, e-books are having effectively no positive impact on the environment,” she said, nor will they “unless publishers print fewer books in anticipation of e-book sales.”

The Association of American Publishers reported sales of e-books were up 154.8 percent by the end of April 2009, while overall book sales were down 4.1 percent; 2008 e-book sales totaled $112 million, and some analysts predict sales may reach $400 million in 2012.

By the end of 2008, sales of e-book readers like the Kindle and Sony’s Reader reached approximately 1 million units, while Apple reported more than 1 million downloads of Amazon’s free Kindle e-book reader application for the iPhone.

The Cleantech study concluded that purchasing three e-books per month for four years produces roughly 168 kilograms of CO2 throughout the Kindle’s lifecycle, compared to the estimated 1,074 kilograms of CO2 produced by the same number of printed books.

Of course, none of this means that e-readers are without environmental impact. Consumer electronics, after all, are notorious for containing a variety of toxic materials among their circuitry. Valerie Motis, a Sony spokeswoman, said in an e-mail message that the company’s e-reader products are free of toxic materials, including polyvinyl chloride, or PVC — a particular bugaboo among environmental groups.

Phone calls and e-mail messages to Amazon inquiring about the materials in the popular Kindle device have thus far gone unanswered.

Casey Harrell, an international campaign coordinator for Greenpeace, which monitors the environmental impact of consumer electronics, said e-readers remain something of an unknown variable.

“In terms of the Kindle or other similar e-book gadgets, I don’t know what chemicals are in or out,” Mr. Harrell said. “Companies will want to brag about their eco-credentials, so if you don’t see any mention, they’ve probably not been eliminated.”

Mr. Harrell suggested another option for those concerned about the environmental footprint of books: “There’s always the public library,” he said.

I want full colour and big enough screen too.
So I will wait.

I already have a reader that carry my PDR and medical stuff, and stuff already, but that is all about work.
It still can't show me the colour of different tablets (pills) which is very important when checking pharmacy. I gave to use the laptop for that.

why is colour so hard??
We have colour on phones for God sake!!
I mean I have wait until spring for that??

Lets see if Apple won't beat Plastic logic to it, by the holidays?
