Mawnin Rootsie! Why you up all night?

The first thing I'm banking on in Jamaica is NO MORTGAGE/RENT. My retirement $$ at 62 will actually be slightly MORE than what I'm making now, with less expenses and less taxes. My smaller pension from my current employer will be enough to pay for my health insurance. I plan on spending summers here with family & friends, but won't keep a residence here.

If I could retire NOW with the $$ I'll make at 62???

The weather here has dried & cooled a bit. It's only 58 as I write this and the humidity has bottomed out. So it's very comfy. The mosquitos still suck tho... And the weekend looks good!!

Morning everyone!

Marilyn...it took me 25 years of working to realize I'm never going to get rich at this! A few years back we put the breaks on buying everything we couldn't afford and looking ahead to something "simpler." No .... taking a retirement when I'm near 70 doesn't sound appealing to me

Anyone have any information on stores that carry inexpensive futons? I have to move my daughter to school next week and she will need something to sleep on. She mentioned a futon and I'm smiling because I'm certain that is less expensive than a traditional bed, with box springs,etc.

SO! This morning I flew to New Zealand to visit mi good good fren Kiwi. After all the long journey it took mi to reach, we decide she fi come back a mi yaad wid me an bring di boys an some man she did deh wid too. A doan knoh why, but she haul so much tings wid har is like she movin to Merica. Bailey did seet mi doh.
Hennyway, she come visit fi likkle ovanight, meet mi fambly & frens an head BACK a NZ an leff har dinin room chairs, 4 heavy ooden sintings.
She reach back a NZ an realize she forget dem, so she bring di whole entourage back a mi yaad fi pick dem up.
DEN mi affi go AAALLLLL the way back a NZ fi help har haul all af har tings up to her house pan top of a sand dune and be back in time fi go to work pan time!!

All noh mi tyad fram all dat runnin an haulin an flyin.

Marilyn come share mine... I have 5 siblings, 9 nieces & nephews and mi likkle Jakey who I'm sure will need im granny fi mine im durin the summer vacation. Of course he'll be about 11 or 12 by the time that's happening, so really he'll just need a watchdog!

Thanks QK IKEA is a good idea...I just hope they are the best deal (cheapest) for futons and I'm hoping they are in the part of Ohio we're heading to. We have several IKEA stores here in Toronto but I don't want the hassle of bringing over new items into the states. Much easier for us to buy when we get there.

I was wondering what on earth you were going on about I should NEVA have sent you photos of mi yard Quite funny how in your DREAM you managed to get me, my boys, and my life all in a REM state!! apart from the man it was all pretty accurate! And you know something? When I pack, its always with the kitchen sink!!

If you "wait" for this and "wait" for that there will always be a more attractive figure out there to "wait" for, factor in the inflation rate while you are WAITING, and you are almost back to square zero anyway.

When I retired my counselor explained to me that once you take out the factors involved in GOING TO WORK 5 days out of the week, factor in my 3% raise every year (working teachers only get 2% GO FIGURE), I will be right back at my normal pay in two more years AT THE HOUSE.

You will <span style="font-size: 20pt">Never get RICH, AHEAD, BE "ALRIGHT", or whatever this dream is you have tied up in your head, working ANY normal wage earning job in AMerica. </span>

Didn't Farrah, Michael,Walter, the Oxy Clean man, show you anything recently.....now you are much younger than myself, and no doubt you do need to work a little longer, but these plans of being damn near 70 before you start to really enjoy your life drive me to distraction!!!!!!!!!!!! </div></div>

I had the 55 plan...to walk away from my job at that time. And Jamaica was part of that plan. I didn't think for a second that the gravy train was gonna happen and that I was going to live any kind of cushy lifestyle, just that I was going to LIVE, period. There would be some years in between retirement kicking in and all the extra's but life is for the living, as they say and I wanted to LIVE! Not just exist with a dream to live....

Well, as it turned out, you know what they say about "best laid plans"! Only HE knows what's in store for us. We can plan all we want but it means NOTHING! I retired early alright, but I didn't make it to 55 and I haven't been to yard for 6 years. In my case, I was lucky I had a chance to start over. Pull myself up from my bootstraps and put my cowgirl pants on and get back on track but I was one of the lucky ones. Luckily, I had something to fall back on and it's gonna be OK again.

The morrow of the story....

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Yes, that's right you neva know what's gonna happen. I love my house and yard and puppies right here! It is really nice & comfy and cool.....I don't want to retire to Jamaica. Maybe visit few months at a time and that's it. Too many other places to see. Plan to travel to Belize, Chile, Peru, and Costa Rica!
