But as I quoted above, there aer still several couples I know who are making it work, and many more who are making it work that I don't knlow, I am sure. I bet the Jamaican govt. and dept. of immigration have some cold hard stats on this.

as one who disliked some of the material in some trip reports i disliked them from a nationalistic point of view...Christianity had nutten to do wid it...however, re the Christian bit, they are supposed to speak out if they see anyone who professes to be a Christian behaving in an unchristian manner....

widdout starting a war, and contributing in the spirit of the thread, one asks if any of the visitors claim Christ as their role model in life? </div></div>She has a point, and if I never saw her point, I wouldn't have changed the timbre of the reports to the watered down version.

On the other note she made...once I was so excited leading up to a trip, and my pastor asked me if I could do something, to which I happily replied that I would be in Jamaica at the time. He leaned close to me and said "Remember Marilyn, God is in Jamaica too" ( guess I looked just a little TOO excited for him.)

So.

My input on the subject, is unless there in a minor involved or some other such horror, to each his own.

Ah my .....the weave of the allure of the start of the LDR (yes I am on topic)....so many elements to it.

First of all just being approached by a man PERIOD....yep speaking from this perspective here in Memphis, USA. brothers have figured out that THEY are the prize, and they just kinda lay back in the cut (get out your ghetto dictionary), and let women come to/fight/ time share, over them.

Now you get to Jamaica, and you are "minding your own business", and this sweet silky voice COMES TO YOU.....WOW HE SAW ME AND CAME TO ME AND APPROACHED ME!!!!!(Immediately the impression is made that he must see SOMETHING attractive in you, or else why would he have come over?)

For the girl who may not be used to that, the intoxication has already begun. Just the chance to "be the girl" and have the alpha male come to YOU, it begins. He ain't gotta say too damn much, but before a Jamaican man even opens his mouth he has perfected the art of looking you up and down like you are the hot fudge sundae from Friday's with the double scoop of french vanilla ice cream on top. Now whatever the hell it is he is going to say is already to the second power and squared, and he ain't got too much further to go before he has the room key and is moved in for the rest of the week.

For some girls it's the accent and the exotic, and shoot me for saying it but for some WHite girls it's the chance to live their Mandingo fantasy without fear of reprecussions from the peanut gallery. If they DO have a job that you KNOW they have, and they go to it, and then come do you, then you somehow convince yourself that they are "not a gigolo". Sweetie, they are a GWAJ..... that is Gigolo with a Job, and you are what we call part time job supplemental income.

Once you leave and go home, the real fun begins....welcome to the wonderful world of Western Union....soon you can fill out that form blindfolded. The fun part is convincing yourself that that ain't you standing in that line sending your hard earned money from the US to this man in Jamaica why????

This is excellent

Now that there is the new immigration law, I see no reason to get in a LDR that people think is true love. How are you going to live retirement there full time any more? Take it for what it is.

I have a house there. It's mine. I did not pay for all of it. My x paid more than me. But it's mine. I do not go there anymore because I do not feel safe at night. I would need arms and to me it's not worth the risk. So there it sits in paradise with the ackee, banana, coconut trees, and my sweet-sweet breadfruit ,mangos, pineapple, apple, and more, all which I planted myself, dream about but probally will never eat again.

If you come from forgien you must have money, right? They don't have a clue how hard we work til they reach stateside, which has also about shut down. Have ya all ever heard Mama Man, Milk, Grocery in patwa convo's? That's slang for the lady is being played and he's being paid.
