if u go to a party to juss dance but drugs deh deh an it seems u can use it ,because the setting seems to allow u to do so seemingly anonymously, do u use it knowing it is wrong, illegal? why do u use it? what does that say about u an the choices u will make, given the circumstances?

the issue of wat Tropi posting goes beyond any toes that seemingly be stepped on....it is an issue that , circumstances in Jamaica, and the push for more tourism, will continue to be on the front burner....absent the personality plays, it is a valid issue

Perhaps the most famous female "sex tourist" is the American writer Terri Macmillan. I always loved her writing. But I could not connect with her book How Stella Got Her Groove Back. For me, she missed something that would have been blindingly obvious to anyone who knew and understood Jamaica.

And this is that the only reason a Jamaican man would have an affair with an American 23 years his senior would be to obtain a green card. Her failure to understand this simple fact ruined the whole book for me.

She went on to marry the young Jamaican lover she immortalised in her book (Jonathan Plummer) and brought him to America. Ten years later the marriage collapsed when she discovered he was gay. In her divorce papers Macmillan said: Jonathan has manipulated me from the very beginning in his scheme to come to the United States, become a citizen and get rich." The baffling thing is that it took her 10 years to work this out.

certainly it's a valid issue...but to lay the whole ball of wax of white tourists doesn't seem to address the whole issue. If tourism ceased to exist in jamaica....would sexual exploitation of children and women in jamaica come to an end? i somehow doubt that based on the accounts of lap dancing on schoolbusses and other sundry nastiness i read in the Observor. Mind you, this is NOT to imply that pedophilia isn't a problem in the US.

these "activities" are not limited to white women
many black women indulge as well
just harder to tell

and unless you've spent time in the tourist areas you don't really understand the approach

u know , the issue of interplay in the "tourist" sector is nothing new in Jamaica tourism...what is new, is the , and i search for the proper term, is the 'purposeness', the 'planned assault' shall we say, on the part of those who indulge...

reading Margaret's new book the Pirate's Daughter, u get the sense of the anonymity that Jamaica use to afford people.....Flynn and all the movie stars who went there, were pleasantly surprised to find out that , yes, they were recognised, but if they comported themselves, they would get no special notice...and that meant no overcharging, no solicitation etc....people even protected their wish for privacy....

that use to be it for even the average tourist too,not juss the one off who have got to "know" Jamaicans

tourism is nothing new for Jamaica...sex is nothing new for anyone....the issue has become, the callous and planned assault on both for less than honourable reasons...

ganja was always available on the island...track the evolution of its fame abroad to what transpires in our new drug subculture on the island....it juss takes a likkle lessening of the personality fights to appreciate that while u dont see urself in wat is going awn, dat dont negate the fact that the turn has occurred in wat makes up "things Jamaican" these days

one visit to Montego Bay with a newbie female

i warned her before going to Dr Cave Beach

that men would approach all day

i told her what was happening

and that NO MATTER WHAT - do not offer them to sit down

that is considered "done deal" and you may have to slit your wrist or get really ugly to get rid of him

so we sit on the beach with these rules in place
all types of "characters" approached us

we met the "rasta", a poet, an accountant on vacation, someone from Chicago (with a very bad USA imitation accent), a tour guide, attorney on vacation

all day there was a stream of men

each asked "may i sit down"
the answer was always NO

I didn't read the book, but I saw the movie. And in the movie, his family appears to be very wealthy - big house and estate, helpers, etc...it appears to be more about love than money for him.

Not sure how much that deviated from the truth of the situation.

some have tried to move the disscussion past the topic starter..others seem fixated on detracting any discussion at all, USING said topic starter as the reason

to use another's attempt to use comparisons....the abolition of slavery and the Jim Crow laws, had to stawt wid a heading , topic, incident , that caught the attention of someone, then a few, then more...an while the detractors, those not willing to look outside self, held fast to their Biblical interpretations etc etc, the movement still went on...
