Awarded a Government Scholarship to Mico Training College in Jamaica and taught as a Headmaster before going to the United Kingdom to volunteer for the Royal Air Force. Trained at the Officer's training College, RAF Cranwell.
1941-1945 - Flew as a member of the aircrew over Europe with Bomber Command. Awarded several war decorations as a Flight Lieutenant in active combat.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Attended the famous 5th Pan-African Congress in Manchester, England as an active participant.
</span>

Entered Oxford University as Jamaica's Rhodes Scholar. Graduated with MA in Jurisprudence and later obtained a BCL (Bachelor of Civil Law).

1950 - Called to the Bar in London from Gray's Inn.

Did tutelage with Sir Dingle Foote, QC (Subsequently Solicitor General of the United Kingdom) and appeared with him before the Privy Council.

<span style="font-weight: bold">1953 - Practiced as a Barrister-at law in the East - including Tanganyika and Kenya, where he was part of the international team defending Jomo Kenyatta (along with H.O.A. Davis of Nigeria; D. N. Pritt QC and others</span>.

<span style="font-weight: bold"> Also practiced in Trinidad, Barbados, St. Kitts, Dominica, The Bahamas, Grenada and elsewhere in the West Indies.</span>

1962 - Became President of the Jamaica Bar Association for many years.

1963 - Appointed a Queen's Council (SAN)

<span style="font-weight: bold"> Played an effective role in the independence movement of both Belize and Bahamas</span>

Was a Member of both the Senate of Jamaica and the Leader of Government Business in the House and later a Member of the House of Representatives.

Occupied in turn the Cabinet posts of Minister of Foreign Affaris; National Security and Minister of Mines and Natural Resources, where he renegotiated the contracts with the bauxite and alumina multinationals and played a leading role in Jamaica's part in the formation of the International Bauxite Association.

Awarded the Order of Jamaica, one of Jamaica's most prestigious decorations, for distinguished service in the field of International Affairs and his contribution to the legal developments in Jamaica.

Was Jamaica's chief representative in the conferences on the Law of the Sea. Was personally responsible for securing Jamaica as the premanent site for the International Seabed Authority in Kingston.

Led Jamaica's delegation to many international conferences, including the United Nations and the Organization of American States for many years.

Responsible for introducing the Ombudsman to Jamaica

Was awarded the Mico Old Students' gold Medal - the most prestigious teacher's award.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Regarded as an intellectual and long standing Pan-Africanist, a friend and colleague of George Padmore, Kwame Nkrumah, C.L.R. James, Julius Nyerre and M.K.O. Abiola</span>

Up to the time of appointment as Ambassador to Nigeria, Ghana and other African countries he was President of the Rhodes Scholars Society of Jamaica.

1992 - Empanelled as member of the Group of Eminent Persons, which is charged with implementing the Movement for Reparations to Africa and the Diaspora as a result of slavery and its effect. This Movement is under the auspices othe OAU. At present he is the Rapporteur of the GEP.

2008 - President WADU World Africa Diaspora Union and Umbrella Association.

As far as I know that oppurtunity was denied them by those who killed them, or gave the order for them to do so. They broke the law not comrade Cuddly Dudley. As a result the killers were charged with murder, and following a trial the killings was found to be justified - Due Process....thats upholding the law.

That's my point. Executing people without charge or trial is not upholding the law. It is murder.

And I am not impressed by the jury finding the soldiers not guilty...any more than when the cops who murdered Jamaican citizens at Kraal in Clarendon were, or Rohan Fraser, or Janice Allen, or others too numerous to mention while their &quot;heroes&quot; in Gordon House stood by and did nothing...........

When you give an order, you own the consequence. That is why men like Radovan Karadžic; are charged with crimes. Yes, he may not have physically pulled the trigger himself but he is held responsible. Just as you have admitted.

In any event, you seem very comfortable with the concept of a government killing its citizens without charge or trial.

RIP comdrade Dudley he lived to a nice ole age and with all his faculties intact - always respected his intellect. He was one of the ole stalwarts. They are dying out one by one.. They don't make them like that anymore. I have to &quot;google&quot; this green bay thing as I am sorry to say I have absolutely no idea what this is about but we ole enough to remember Mr. Dudley when he was in his 30's or 40's..

You misunderstood me, The only decision comrade Thompson made in this case was to support the Military personels in question. He gave no orders or made no decisions with regard to the treatment of the victims. He later apologies for some callous remarks he made about the victims......before he had the full story of what actually took place.

He Gave no order in particular with regards to these victims....as far as I understand the case. Upon hearing of the incident he made the decision to give his support to the officers....he later was proven right for doing so by the courts

When taken in isolation it seems like a noh nutten...but what if it viewed in context?

The man ran a programme where they went into an Opposition enclave; gathered some young men; told them they were to be trained for jobs; planted guns on them them opened fire killing five of them. One of them was a promising musician (Glenroy Richards - Wicked Can't Run Away - AKA Green Bay Killing) who voiced on one of the greatest tunes about Green Bay from the grave. Another was a well known footballer.

This alone would be comparable to the Nazis sending Jews to the Gas Chamber. Yet it was not the only human rights abuse in that era:

Brigadistas
The Pickersgill Committee
Gold Street Massacre [I turned against the PNP Leadership over this, wrote and performed and poem publicly that referenced this incident.

These are systematic abuses committed over less than a decade, resulting in loss of live, livelihood and significant cost to our GDP. The Comrade Leadership should be in the Hague, but of course we are Jamaicans, we will just excuse it on the basis that the other side did it.

First off my condolences to all the victims
Thats not what I recall.
The story goes that they were going to be transporting illegal guns for which they would be paid $500 and be given a motor car, they also were promise jobs (works) with the guns.

I do not see the abuse the way you see it, it was a reaction to sabotage and supterfuge. It was a struggle to lift the poor black masses of Jamaica because the greedy entrench landed gentry would have none of it.....as a result a clash of ideas and programmes ensue creating pain misery and suffering.

Elections were to be held in December of 1976. The JLP was leading in the polls. The State of Emergency was declared in June of 1976. The KoolAid at the time was that the JLP and the CIA were responsible for an upsurge in violence even though, many many members of the JLP and their supporters were dying.

Even basic school children were able to figure out what was going on.
